In my opinion the Exceleron is the best that you can get for money. $239.99. Awesome plane. Can't wait to fly it.

Do not overlook the Fliton Infinity 90.

Do a search here. There are a couple of build threads. One is mine. I am going electric. Great plane for it.

If you have been 3Ding, what about one of the freestyle type planes, like the znline syergy 90 or YT adrenalin. I have had both, they will pattern very well and will do the slow 3d stuff. A 90 2 stroke of 110/120 4 stroke will work well.

If you like to build and your looking for a pattern capable 90 size, the Dick Hanson Runaround series are excellent.

RE: THE BEST 60-90 PATTERN PLANE

I can't tell you which is one is best, because I haven't built, owned, trimmed or flown ALL of the planes in this size. I can tell you that the CA WideBody 60 is a great airplane for someone starting in pattern. The plane will come out in the 6.5 pound range with a .60 2 stroke and 7ish pounds with a big 4 stroke. I went in the middle and am using an OS 91fx with a perry carb and pump. The weight of the plane dry without the pump (it was added later after it was weighed) is 6 pounds 9 ounces. As for flying qualities...pretty good. No pitch to the belly in knife edge and very little proverse roll couple. I found that I had to mix just a touch of down elevator with idle throttle. It has a slight tendency to pull to the canopy on down lines. With the 91 pulling it, the vertical is unlimited and will pull out of a hover. Slowing down for landing is like flying any other light wing loading plane. It can be flown at a crawl.

Hope this helps,

Bryan

I really like the Widebody 60. Easy build and great flyer.

Put a good set of coreless servos and dont skimp on the accesories and you will have a sweet flyer.

Its one of my favorite all around planes.

Widebody gets my vote. Have been flying one with a 91fx and it will do the job for up to masters level. Mine is happy at knife edge with 1/2 throttle and moderate rudder. Tracks well and seems to be OK at hovering and TR. I needed some mix to get rid of the pull to canopy and now it is just about three times as good as the pilot

RE: THE BEST 60-90 PATTERN PLANE

I love my WB 60 too
So smooth in the roll, and ZERO pitch/roll coupling. really. none.
a .91 FX and built stock mine weighs 8 lbs dry with JR 8231's and a 800 mah nicad pack.
most rudder authority of any pattern plane I've flown- any size.
I am gonna try to change some hardware and lose a few ounces, but since I fly more pattern than 3-d stuff, with the weight it cuts through the wind like a Goldberg Extra (real well)

Hey Jetmech. what do you think of the kit quality. what engine in yours. nice trim scheme--that's what I like about building.

RE: THE BEST 60-90 PATTERN PLANE

it has a ST G90, quality is very good, and very easy to bulid nice lazer cut parts, the cowl and wheelpants are kinda fragile, but they came out nice, im from the old school of building used glass cloth and epoxy resin, and automorive lacquer paint, weighs 8lbs. Should have pretty decent performance, ran a couple of tanks through the engine today

For more info on the Excelleron, you can read the thread at http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/Exce...2341036/tm.htm. I'm flying my Excelleron with a TT 120RP. It is an extremely good plane and definitely the best value for the money!

Hey Jetmech- glad to hear I'm not the only one that came out at 8 lbs! I was really getting tired of hearing 6# 10 oz. from everyone! to my defense, though, I did build in four flight surfaces/servos into the wing.

i have the widebody also it flys awesome ive flown it with a .912stroke it isnt enough for 3-d in mine i hav a 1.10 with a hatori silencer the power is insane the perfect setup it will do a climbing inverted flat span its insane and you should see the knife edge harrier its insane it tracks just like a 2meter plane it is in my opinion one of the best all-around planes 3d and pattern oh yeah the inverted harriers are to die for and very little coupling,X-treme Dean
