Servos for WB 60
 

Hey every1. I own a Widebody 40 and it's the best 40 performer I've ever had. I'm starting to build a WB 60, but I haven't much money left to invest onto it (just finished college). I've got pretty much everything I'll need but coreless servos. I´m thinking of using standard servos on all flying surfaces. I'm a 3D/pattern flyer and I think they wold have power enough to make the plane do all the tricks in the book since the air is thinner at the height I fly at (over 7000ft over sea level). What do u think about it...? Should I wait til I put my hands over a good bunch of coreless servos?

I saw someone using Hitec HS-475HB servos in an Epsilon and I haven´t seen him post any problems with that setup. It was the one with the enlarged rudder and elevator posted a while back.

I used JR 531 servos on the ailerons and they worked fine.

hi;i make epsilon and servos 635 hitec , carbonite gear, is very good .

My WB 60 has JR 811's on all of the control surfaces. They are not coreless though. They are digital with a 3 pole motor. I like these servos in 60 to 90 size applications. Very precise! You can find them new for about 50 bucks each, but you will see them for sale in the rcu for sale section regularly.

I know we are talking about the Widebody 60. I have the WB 40 and it is great. I used 3151s. These are in the 40 oz range and they may work for the WB 60. It is funny to set my 40 next to a friend's 60 as the sizes are close. I would like to hear what anyone has to say about the 3151s in a 60 plane.

Erik- why the larger rudder in the Epsilon? I'm going to buy the 40 size when it is introduced here, and I could use all of the suggestions on it.

Thanx a lot for the input info. I think I´m going 4 the JR 531. If I don't post any news about how they worked with my setup, u'll be right wondering why. I just can't wait to have it done. Hands down the best pattern/3D flyer I've ever put my beautiful hands on :D:D:D. Or at least the closest to 2m pattern planes.

I'm going to use Hitec 5625 digitals. For $50.00 you get 110 oz torque and still pretty fast. Best deal out there in my opinion.

jetmech- is your WB a 60 size? If so, then very interesting. I've stopped checking the 1100mah battery pack that I'm using. I've put over an hour on it with 4 3151s, and cycling on the charger showed over 200 minutes left.

mahoo- that ain't a bad price for 110 oz digital. The S3151s used to be $50, but I've seen them in the mid $30 range recently. I used a Hitech S-55 for my throttle servo. Kinda neat little servo for $18.

yes its 60 size have 2 servos on each elevator 2 on ailerons one on rudder, 3003 for throttle

Thanks for the info on the servos. I wonder if a single 3151 would be enough for the elevators. Probably not.

i ran a jr8101 thru a bellcrank and it was plenty for both elevator halves

The 8101 is twice the Futaba 3151.

I'm using the Futaba 3010 on all the control surfaces, and Futaba 148 on the throttle since I had one from an other plane. My Widebody is set up just for pattern so I have reduced the size of the elevator and aileron. I'm also running 6v regulated to 5,7v.

Flue,

A member in Brazil wrote me about reducing his ailerons and elevator/stab on the WB 60 too. I hope to know more of what percentages he reduced soon. He built stock and modified kits. He also added dihedral to the wing tips as on the WB 40. He fiberglassed the fuselage and it looks very nice.

I'm very interested in how yours flies better.....

My widebody 60 uses a JR 8101 on the rudder and it yields consecutive knife edge loops about 80' in radius. truly awesome. Any more servo there would be wasted. a JR 4721 is probably overkill on the elevator, but I didnt want to buy anouther servo when I had this one NIB. My ailerons are a pair of JR DS-8321's. Really, really smooth and strong. I would go with 80-90 oz/in servos thoughout. I started with hitec 605bb's on the ailerons, but they centered poorly, and when I switched them for 8231's, I had to cut my low rates by HALF because of the increase in power. (realize that I replaced 77 oz/in servos with 88 oz/in, a mere 11 oz increase, which makes me believe that the published hitec specs are not accurate)
some of you guys might remember that I put 9" flaps on the inboard part of the ailerons- they are basiclly held in nuetral 90% of the time by a pair of 517's I recently removed the std. servo on the throttle in favor of a cirrius micro (cs-22?) mounted on the firewall. I love the instant thottle response of .08 sec @6v, plus It cancelled out the added weight of one of my flap servos.

flew my wide body 3 times today, still feels nose heavy, but doing good, I will get it right soon, great flying airplane

Do you guys feel that the digital servos are worth the extra expense? I have some older 9201s which are nice but they are not digital and only put out 76 oz/in. Looks like I'll need to get some low profile servos for the ailerons and higher torque servos for the elevator and rudder. Thanks,

I've seen 9201's on ailerons in a WB and it flew extremely well.
