Electric Angels Shadow - Building

I saw Noels post a few weeks ago about the Electric Angels Shadow. After talking to my flying buddies about the plane I decided to get one. Noel was accomodating and my plane arrived yesterday. For the benefit of everyone who may not be familiar with this plane I thought I'd post this build thread.

Here's how it looks when it arrives.

Here's first look at the big pieces. When the DHL driver deliver the box he asked if it was some kind of artwork. I laughed and told him it was a toy airplane. I was wrong. After looking at the fit and finish, this is a work of art.

That is exactly how my crate looked when it arrived. Did you count the number of screws to remove when opening? Something around 40 according to my count.

Yea, that sounds about right. To give everyone a sense of the attention to detail, the corners on the CRATE are rounded over. I usually toss shipping crates, but this one I'm going to keep. I don't know what I'm saving it for, but I can't bring myself to throw it away.

Hi Ben,

Totally agree, amazingly built, just got mine recently too and concur on the quality, absolutely amazing, keep those pics coming as I am keen to compare,I havent started mine yet, what colour scheme had you in mind and what type of paint? This quality of model deserves a super finish, I am undecided on coloring of mine but I am going to give it great thought( I got the unpainted version like yours)

Thanks
Durcan

This is what I'm thinking of. I will probably choose slightly different colors, but I like this scheme.

Ben,

I have two Shadows and on one of my cases I hinged the top and put over center latches with a hasp for a small padlock. This has made it an excellent long haul container for those one or two vacation contests. The plane comes apart so easily that using the case isn't that much of a hassle and it sure does protect the shells from damage.

Well those crates are nearly bullet proof, would take a lot to damage them, Ben-I dont have a scales but this has to be the lightest fuzz I have ever seen, unbelievable

Got a little work done. I'm still amazed at the quality. Here's a little example. The gear legs have four nuts on them. The bolts are already threaded in the holes in the fuselage. There are four holes above them for an allen wrench to be passed through. The two outer bolts require that the wrench pass through at an angle. The hole is elongated for the wrench to fit perfectly.

In prep for masking for paint, I mounted the rudder. It took about 20 seconds. I unscrewed the shaft, moved the rudder into place and replaced the shaft. Fit and finish is perfect.

I've decided to try Dupont's acrylic enamel. I've mostly used lacquer, but my last supplier ran out of binder so that's not an option. Here are the colors I bought.

Last item to update is the spinner. This plane wants a 80mm spinner and that's hard to find here in the states. Thanks to other threads in this forum I found escomposites.com and have one on the way.

Ben , your title for this is a little misleading , cos there is no building in the Shadow, its hard to describe how finished it is!! Nearly everything is already done!!
Can't wait to see yours when its painted Ben

Where do you get one and how much delivered? It appears it must come only from Noel Barrett?

The plane looks great.

Think Noel is the only one you can buy from , his site is http://www.noelbarrettmodels.com
As for price , not sure either, I do know they have come down in price and are now supplied in Herex which is supposed to be stronger and lighter than balsa versions

Sorry about the lack of progress. The flying season caught up with me. As I type I'm using a borrowed computer while 600 miles away from home at a flying event. Should have some time in about two weeks from now to get it painted.
