2x2 pattern models - which one?
hi all,
Does anyone know of any good 2x2 pattern models as plans. I want to do comps next year either imac (with my Cap) or F3a. I want to stick to the 2x2 size as i do like larger models however can't afford a Synergy  . Failing that how do the world models zen 120/140 fly?..i'd rather build something myself than buying an artf so a plan or a 'propa' kit would be ideal. Thanks in advance |

On this side of the pond ;) you can get Giles 202 and various versions of the Typhoon (2000, 2+2) from Gator R/C. They also sell foam cores, cowls, pants etc for their plans. They also have plans for the Fascination, another (almost) 2X2 design.
MK has just released the TopStar kit which is an all balsa 2X2 pattern kit and is MUCH more reasonably priced than their other kits of the same size. Falcon Hobbies (in Canada) sells plans for the Legacy (and foam cores if you wish). There is another design, the Boxer 1.20, but I'm not sure of the current availability of the plans for this. I build from scratch frequently ('cause I like to) and another avenue is to enlarge plans for .60 sized pattern planes such as the Loaded Dice. MK also kits the Alliance CP (for .63 4-stroke) - you could enlarge the plans for this - cheaper than the ZNLine kit :p Hope this helps, good luck!! -Will |

I think that Brandon Ransley is selling some very good kit...You might get a bargain. I've seen the planes in the magazines, and it looks very good. Check out the for sale section of www.probuild-uk.co.uk Theres an Alliance and Evolises I think.

Check out AeroSlave.com
If you would rather build than have an ARF, and you want a really high tech plane for a low price then check out www.AeroSlave.com.
They have two models. One is their 2m Entropy for $375 and the other is a wider body 2m plane called the Aries for $575 or $650 (depending on which composites you choose for the fuse). Both of these planes fly extremely well and are built by active pattern competitors here in the USA. Good luck, Keith |

Even cheaper at about 500 NZ or about 170 pounds is the Matrix designed by Frazer Briggs, have a look at
http://www.geocities.com/pbgcomposites/Matrix.htm These things fly awesome. The shipping might cost a wee bit, but I dont think these can be beat for price/performance |

As mentioned before try a Loaded Dice III, its 120 size and besides the plan from RCM&E you can get the cowl, canopy and I believe a set of foam wings/tail. Check out the RCM&E WEbsite or give them a ring. They will photocopy the construction articles for you too.
Hope this helps |

Tony, Are you building from just the plans or you also bought the wing and stab? Do the plans have enough information to build from scratch. Thanks

There were plans for a 2M model in RCMW, I think it was called the Saxon.

The Saxon is a modified Dave Smith Excelsor or something, well, so I heard.
