Modeltech Calypso 60
I came by this plane,I believe its called (ARF or ARC) NIB with a lot of accesories including an OPS engine looks to be about a 60 size eng. I don't know anything about this plane except I think is called a pattern plane. Any information I could get would be greatly apreciated. Also the canopy is the only thing missing so far, anyone know where I my buy one?

RE: Modeltech Calypso 60
The calypso was a Hano Pretner design from the 1980's. I had one ages ago, it flew ok as long as it is straight. They don't fly as well as a modern 140 size plane but it was from a different era.

Back in the day we called them a CALAPSO...Nice plane if straight like the other man said. Too many other better planes out there today.

From the era of speed was very helpful, they were only 60 2 stroke engines. The upper limit was 10cc engine.

For a canopy you might try Global/Hobby Shack - maybe they are "Hobby People" now? They were the Modeltech importer last I knew.
As others said, so many better flying choices for sport/pattern let alone pattern specific. By todays standards it is really a low wing trainer, docile at slow speeds. Enjoy for what it is, certainly capable of decent scores in Sportsman if you intend to compete. The OPS is heavy but powerful. Likes small props so makes a fair bit of noise. I used to fly one with a YS 60 and my dad with an OS 91 Surpass- flew better w/ the 4 cycle. |
