os 1.40 rx for pattern
 

I saw in the review of the Ultra-RC Icepoint 2m it is referred to as a 1.40 ARF meaning that the OS 1.40 rx is supposed to be perfect for it. The reviewer put an OS 1.60 fx in it. So both engines, the 1.40 rx and the 1.60 fx, must be right for it. Correct? thx. Jim

Yep. The 140 RX is a more pattern specific engine, but doesn't have quite the punch the 160 has in my experience. On a 10 lb or less airplane, you'll have plenty of vertical on either one.

The 140 is more user friendly than the 160, because with the 160 you really need a pump or hopper or something to get adequate fuel delivery in every angle and attitude.

Of course the 140 is a few ounces lighter and rear exhaust too. It's more expensive as well [8D]

That being said, if it were me, I'd go with the 140 for the Icepoint, they don't seem to be 11 lb airplanes.

Here's the 1.40 RX I'm putting in my Icepoint. Unfortunately, the airplane is not set up for using a Budd mount, so I've spent half of my time fabricating the engine mounting.

It still remains to be seen whether I have the patience to deal with the one piece wing. . ..

My Zen 2 is almost 11 lbs and the 140rx has plenty of power left over. I'm running a 15.5x2 4 blade on it. Awesome power. Way more than my ys140L. It also has great power with the 17x13.
I generally agree with what you say Mike but not on the under 11 lb thing. Maybe yours wasn't running right or something. They compare to the ys dz's by far. Perfect motor for pattern. Easy to run. Never have to touch it.

Question for you. Did you build a second firewall prior to installing the Budd mount. I have this mount also and your photo appears to show an additional ply firewall supported by trianangle stock.

I don't know. I run Magnum number 1 fuel. I hear it's like 15% to 18%. I run a greve pipe and the os type F.

Check out the Icepoint build thread. There are lots of pictures of the modified firewall installation for a Budd or Hyde mount. I have the Hyde mount in mine with a 160. I don't know anything about the 140 but the 160 runs great with pump and the power is awsome.

What class are you flying it in? I have flown them for 3 years now. Flew to 4th place in Masters this year at the NATS with a sub 10lb NB Engineering Mantis. This was a nice setup, but I wouldn't go much more than 10lbs 4oz if you plan to fly higher classes. On a nice 65 degree day with no wind it will comfortably fly FAI, but if its in the 80's with high winds, even with 25% Nitro and a 17X12APC it would be marginal in FAI with the vertical snaps over 10 1/4 - 10 1/2. I'm turning about 8200 on the ground with the 17X12. This will be my last year in Masters, and I will be changing motors after this year. The reason being on a vertical upline snap in mid july, when the prop is really loaded it will mush out of the snap (this is lack of torque from the big 2 strokes). The 1.60 FX is a little better, but they still do not match the torque of the 160DZ, or especially the electrics. Classed up through Advanced you can comfortable get through with any setup with the OS 1.40 or 1.60, but on a really hot windy day with a heavy airplane you will be right on the edge in the upper classes,
