Which pattern plane
Trying to get some ideas for a first pattern plane .46 - .52 ARF, any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

RE: Which pattern plane
As a fellow newcomer to the pattern world (I have a very experienced mentor) I am flying a GP Venus 40 with too large an engine (magnum 92 2-stroke APC 15x8). Have also flown that sized plane with a Magnum 52 2-stroke. The current configuration is straight and level with 30% throttle, but the vertical is unlimited. Took about an ounce at the tail plus some taller gear for the larger prop (and my inxperience).
Have fun mike |
RE: Which pattern plane
I have great things to say about my Cermark Javelin II. I have a YS 63 in the nose with a 13X6 APC and it flies extremely well.

How about a Columbo Anderson Epsilon 40?

RE: Which pattern plane
I think for the dollar, the Venus from Great Planes is a pretty good choice. It's certainly a capable little devil. i'm going to finish this year with one then maybe try something like a Quest.
The thing that's nice about these two models is that it won't break the bank to get into this type of airplane, and this type of flying. maybe the Excelleron would also be a good one... The review in rc modeler was pretty good, but then again I have never seen a review that says the plane is any less than excellent. I know the Quest and Excelleron are 90 size, but still are very affordable. |

I appreciate the suggestions - thanks!

RE: Which pattern plane
If you have flown low-wing planes proficiently, I would suggest the Ultra-Sport 40 size, using O.S. 46ax or similar. This is my long time sport plane, has gentle stall habits and wide performance envelope......IMHO...g/l

RE: Which pattern plane
Go for the Venus ..no doubt !! I love mine...A YS .63 would be a match from heaven or a Saito 82. I'm flying mine on a rear exhaust
MVVS. .49 on 0% nitro as my everyday plane..another good combo.. xanaphyst |
