3 and 4 bladed Prop options
Recently I've started to experiment with both 3 blade and 4 blade props.
The setup that seems to work best on my Smaragd with a YS 140DZ is the APC 15x11 4 blade. It seems nice and slow while allowing plenty of power. I'm also trying different props on a Temptation with an OS 1.60. I havn't quite decided on this setup yet and will soon try a Dave Lockhardt 15.75 X 12 repitched 3 blade. I would be interested in hearing who is using these props and what type of results your getting with them. Another aspect of the 4 blade on my Smaragd 140DZ is setting up a good cruise speed with my throttle curve. Does anyone have a firm RPM # that they look for in a cruise speed? So far the experiment has yielded a plane that I think is easier to fly then what I was getting out of any 2 blade I had tried. Thanks, Mike |
RE: Prop options 3 and 4 blade
Mike I have ran the 15.5x12 4 blade on the 1.60DZ and it definatly eases the workload. I had flown the 15x11 4 blade on a piped Webra 1.45 with the same result, a mufflered Webra wouldnt handle this prop.
Im interested in the Mejlik 16x11 3 blade and would like to here if anyone has ran this on a 1.60DZ. I found this progam called thrust that is interesting to play with different props and RPMs, http://www.bmaps.net/software/goodies.html. Im not sure how close it relates to real world but its an interesting progam. |

Today I tested a 15.75X12 Dave Lockhart repitch 3 blade on my OS 160/Temptation. This is the best combination I have tested so far. Bob Pasto said it was good but it exceeded my wishes so far. Mike
