Head to head pattern planes

I saw a couple of posts commenting on the mid-air between me, Keith Black, and David Cotton at the Nederland, Texas contest last weekend. I thought I'd share pictures of what occurs when two pattern planes have a head to head competition. [sm=eek.gif].

Unfortunately I only have pictures of my plane, however Dave's looked at least as bad. In fact, due to all the thick brush and trees I don' think they found as much of Dave’s plane.

Notice in the third picture you can see a piece of Dave's plane imbedded in the bottom of my wing.

The fourth picture shows my engine with a broken crankshaft and foam in the front fins. Dave's crankshaft was also broken.

This is sort of cool, in going through the wreckage I just found one of Dave's cheek cowls inside my fuse.

He will probably want that back for the rebuild. ;)

How did you like the way your Impact flew after Bryan tweeked on it?

I'd have to say that after the fifth round it flew better than my Aries :).

It's getting pretty close to being trimmed, still a bit of pull to the belly in knife edge and slightly comes to the canopy when drawing an upline 45 and rolling inverted. Brian talked to me about ways to continue to tweak these things using incidence and CG.

Honestly there is a lot to like about the way the Impact flies, I just have to finish tweaking it and get used to it.

"Impact" may become a tragic name for a pattern plane, especially at contests with multiple flight stations!
