What are you working on now?

I've been working on a model that was given to me a few months ago that was no longer wanted and was crash damaged and im now up to painting it .Its an Australia built Cyclone. This plane was fitted with a YS110 and gave the old owner a heap of trouble so i ended up giving it a new home..

Below is a pic of the first coat of paint after the rebuild of the wings as they were damaged and all paint striped back to the fibreglass..Im going to re-power it with a OS 120 FS but if it needs more i'll fit my Moki 135 in it..

Hopefully it will be straight enough to earn me some more promo points.(i hate fighting a bent plane)

Comon.. Its time to show me what you guys are working on now.New or old..

RE: What are you working on now?

Hi,

My new project is a SPINELL from JR MODELS, designed by Ewald Trummp, a german EC and WC pilot.

This is a Balsa/foam kit , excellent built by JR MODELS, almost ready to cover. Everything is very accurate and all the alligment is just in spot.

High Quality balsa, and a very light construction, will do it easy to keep this bird in the lower range of the weight, and no need for modification or replacement of parts ...

In fact, compared to other reputated F3A manufactures, this is a kit that belong to the best of them ...

I am looking forward to test it, and if it flies like previous planes from E.Trummp, i will use this bird for next seasons FAI events.

Hi Kjell

I'm building a Spinell for a friend of mine and theres a couple more coming from other builders. The Spinell has a little Messerschmidt over it, so it also resembles an earlier design called Genesis, that I have flown, ( Not the Chip Hyde Genesis, but the Peter Erang Genesis ) and they both fly a little fast because of narrow hulls, and totally without mixing of seitenruder/ höhenruder mixing.

You might want to reinforce the landing gear holding points in the fuselage.;)

Which version of the Cyclone are you repairing because no Cyclones were designed for a YS110 the first Cyclone was built in with a YS120 SC in it your picture is definately not one of the early Cyclones the later ones from 98-2000 had one piece wing with retracts
and deep fuse were powered by YS140FZ and 140L the first fixed gear model had 2 piece wing came in 2000 powered by a YS140L
the latest has different wings and stab and moulded fuse powered by 140DZ and up

Hi John..

I'm sure its a Cyclone as it still had stickers down the side when it was given to me.But you might be able to tell me differently..

It was given to the club member that i got it off from Chris Dawson as he shot him down at a comp,so the story goes..Chris knows about this plane.I dont know to much of its history but i hope its going to fly straight..

It's a one peice wing and both sides of the wing had damage from a YS dead stick and now the owner had moved UP to a 2X2 Cyclone it was no longer wanted..

Below are some pics of the way i got it and the rebuild.Hope you are able to shed some light on it if its not a Cyclone John..

Yeah that was a shot of when i was puting the Adrenaline together..

It still flys great but it needs some trim re-covering at the front as its comming off.

Hi
I think I know the origin of this Cyclone it looks a lot like one Gordon made which was one of the later Cyclones which was reduced
in size and modified to suit a YS91 Gordon made a couple of models like this one there were some diferencies between them but
basicly they were scratch built one off before you paint it make sure it is straight I am not sure of its history of weather it had been
damaged and repaired before you got it

John

Are you referring to Gordon from Maryborough??

j payne 10-09-2005 06:11 AM

RE: What are you working on now?

Hi
Yes but the old fella has moved from Maryborough back to North QLD

RE: What are you working on now?

arrrhh that explains why I haven't seen him at the field for some time. I've actually watched him fly his smaller version of the cyclone a few times. Must say it tracked very nice and presented well for it's size.

Mark,

Any changes to the fuselage? I been considering a Twinsight for quite some time, with the canopy moved back a little and with a slightly raised vertical fin (seems most F3A bipes have a bigger vertical stab). Anyway, the idea is really a great one. The wing layout looks sweet. ;)

Well you are a cruel cruel man to post and excite us with you visions of Bipe-deur. it looks awesome!!! I cant wait to see it progress and finally see it fly. I think you got some great ideas and it will come together nicely.

I think i gotta get some wing panes soon :D

talk to you again soon!!!!

RE: What are you working on now?

Ok now serously, you just gonnm just because CPLR of and throws a little airflow stabiler doesnt mean a BIGGER one works any better, seriously, did you just blow it up and stick the fuse through the center?

Or is this an attempt to confuse the jusdges with STEALTH type angles so they are confused for wings level. This could cause many NO's on your scoresheet. have you thought of the ramifications with tampering aerodynamicly accepted priciples in pattern that two just doesnt score better than one????

come on Mark... see what drinking at all hours of the night and having a foam cutting bow can lead too. i know Richard definitely could not have been apart of this... esp with his minded twisted into this whole voodoo style of thinking thast has been brainwashed into him through Nats voodoo dolls and years of knowing Richard.

Thank god i am not to be infected by this madness.... hahaha

RE: What are you working on now?

Erik,

Richard and I were in the midst of cutting foam cores (by the way, I have a couple foam core sets available) for a few more mono-Insights.

I was just visualizing, but I think the fuse design could stay the same....may change some things around the tail......and then there's the weight issue...how to build it under 5kg.........anybody got some anti-gravity pixie dust? This will be a fun project to toy with thru the Winter.

RE: What are you working on now?

Mark, mayb eif you contacted the foam manufacturer and got the to make a batch of foam with helium???

wait.. nitrogen????

hmm, if the wings were sealed completely you could fill them????

RE: What are you working on now?

Mark,

Pixie-dust.....thats so 60's-ish.
Have you tried nano-fusion? Try c/a'ing some nano-lite to the wing skins. Works really, really well.
Better yet ge some of the hy-bred balsa that is being produced in the deserts of Africa. Less water menas less weight.

I have a friend who can get me some carbon nano-tubes..........I should be in good shape.
