O.S. 140 and CF pipe

Which ES Composites CF pipe is the best for an OS 140? There are 3 or 4 sizes and I don´t know the differences between them.

Please help!![:o][:o][:o]

2C140M80

That is the pipe that most closely matches the engine's power band, and most closely matches the factory OS pipe. It's very plug-and-play if you use the OS header, you can't miss.

I have been using the ES XL80,the long skinny one,for a few years and am well satisfied with it. I am about to purchase another ES pipe for the OS 140RX,and in a way it makes sense to buy the same as I have.
However,I have been considering one of the other sizes for my Brio.
What is the advantage of the M80? Noise, power, etc?
Disadvantage is cost, and it is a bit heavier.

Well the m80 does carry more punch in the top end, it's tuned to the engine whereas the long skinny one functions more like a muffler and less like a full blown tuned pipe. The S version (shorter one) carries just a tad bit more top end, but the bottom end transition isn't quite as smooth. The L is a little smoother on the bottom with very slightly less top end, but it's a tad heavier and larger.

The truth is the OS really doesn't care, you could run a piece of aluminum tubing into a beer can and it would be happy. But in my personal experience the m80 is the best suited to this engine, although truthfully the differences in them all are very slight.

And that being said, ES is my favorite pipe, it's one of those few things on a pattern plane that I consider truly worth the money. The others being PBG tubes and Hyde mounts. [8D]

I do have the Aeroslave pipe as well. It has more top end power, but the transition is a little rougher than the ES. It's a good pipe though, and I wouldn't hesitate to use one. But I like the ES better, Ed really knows how to turn out some nice composite work.

I went with a Mac's header (4742) and the ESD2C140S9. I had to go with the S over the M due to installation limitations. Header and pipe inlet are 7/8" where as the M8 pipe is 3/4".

Thank you very much for your answers.
What about the header? I´m using a Macs header ( the taller one 2.25") with the standard aluminium OS pipe. Does the header makes any difference in the final result?

Not really. I THINK the OS header is a fraction longer, but in the end it makes no difference. I like the OS header because the o-rings allow the engine to move and not put undue stress on the header. If you mount the pipe at the coupler right behind the header, and somewhere else further down, this allows the whole assembly to give a little. I have seen quite a few Macs headers break because of vibration, never seen an OS break under any circumstances. If it moves TOO much you may have to replace the o-rings occasionally, but that's all.

Mike: I will be using the OS header. I assume my shortened ones will be much too short as they were cut for the Grieve pipe and the ES XL80?

Can you give me an approximate length for the ES 140M pipe set up? Fuel will be 15% Cool Power.

Thanks,,,,,,,,Dave

Dave, the length measured from the glow plug to the end of the pipe where the stinger cone begins is 32 3/4" long.
