Just got my Brio, need help in installing the wing and stab surfaces. Please help me how to install top hinge style.

First of all make the slot for the hinge at an angle down, so it doesn't touch the top of the surface. meaning the hinge when inserted makes an angle downward. I make a groove in the leading edge of the surface and in the trailing edge of the stab (for the hinges center) so there is no gap at all between them, and I also use some covering to seal it. make sure the hinges center doesn't stick out of the top of the surface

An even better idea I think, is use Monokote hinges on the wings and stab. I've done it on my CA Eclipse, as well as the NB engineering Mantis I'm flying now. Made the finals in Masters the last 2 years with them. Great method. Light, seals the gap, and anyone who has tried to tear Monokote will tell you, VERY strong. Bevel the wing, leave the Aileron straight (makes it easier to get the horn over the hinge line, you can leave the wing straight and bevel the aileron, but much harder to reach the center of the hinge line). I put one 2 inch strip all the way down the aileron, flip it up, put a hinge on the bottom as well. Then just cover the wing normally after that, covering over the other hinge. Makes your schemes look better, as well as doubles the strength of the hinge. Here is a picture of the plane, I can get closer pictures to show you the method of doing it. Hinges have held up great for several years. Also, easy to repair or replace if you ever needed to.

I wouldn't mind hearing about top hinge methods.

I used Robarts on my last kit with beveled ailerons/elevators/rudder. I then covered them with a single piece of Ultracoat. The stab sheet went from leading edge to trailing edge of the elevator, and the same for the other control surfaces. There is no bump under the covering from extra strips underneath. I don't see any way a control surface could become separated.

Hi Arch,

Could you tell or show some more detail about the Monokote hinges? Sure tearing Monokote apart is impossible, but no problem with the Monokote separating from the wing?
