60 size pattern plane?
 

Anyone know of a good 60 size pattern plane? I have an Excelleron 90 but want a smaller one to practice with, larger than a Venus 40 for instance.

You didn't read my post. Other than a Venus 40 and there is not a Venus 60.

Just a personal recommendation. I've learned over the years that you are MUCH better off, just pick one plane and fly it. If you fly a smaller plane and then a larger one they will fly so much different that in some cases you can hurt your flying. You are ahead to just find one plane, and fly it, and become as good as you can with that one plane. It's nice to have other planes to play around with, but for pattern, find your primary plane stick with it.

I know of one flyer in particular that had flown one smaller plane all year, and that the last contest of the year, had his new larger plane ready with only a couple of flights on it. Even though the larger plane probably flew better, he was so much more comfortable with the smaller plane that it actually hurt his flying by flying the larger plane.

Nice. I didn't see that one in Tower Hobbies. Thanks for the update. Last time I saw the Great Planes web site the only size Venus they had was the 40.

Yeah, it makes sense. My issue right now is getting the engine in the Excelleron 90 to run right. I have an Evolution 100 in there, of course, inverted, and it is more of a challenge just to get it to fly twice in one day than I ever thought. The engine is not consistent at this point.

I have had it worked over by the club pro, but no matter what we do, it will not run the same way twice. After the first flight, after we have it dialed in, or what we think is dialed in, I take the plane up and fly it through the tank of fuel. On approach, the engine usually quits on me. No big deal, probably out of fuel.

Land it, back to the bench, fuel it up, and start the engine. Walk out the flight line, put the plane on the ground, walk to the pad and turn around, hit the throttle, engine quits. Back to the bench.. and.. from here, go back to the previous sentence and start at 'start the engine' and go from there.. never gets in the air for the second flight because after about 6 of these iterations, defuel and fly something else.

I love the plane, but this engine issue has me down. Everyone now thinks that it will run properly after it warms up a bit.. outside temp was mid to upper 40's.

I am beginning to think that the evolution 100 was not the engine I should have chosen, but am now pretty much committed to getting that running right. I could go to an OS 91 but from what I hear, they are not that trustworthy either.

And I don't want to fork out the $400 bucks for a YS 110!!

Had a similar issue with the same motor at our club field here. We ended up putting one of the Iron Bay regulators on it. Motor problems went away. Turned out the motor just was not consistent at drawing fuel. Go to www.ironbaymodelcompany.com and look under accessories. The advantage of this regulator is that it will not let the motor flood. Fuel is forced to the back of the regulator, and sits there until the carb draws it up. Has helped in a lot of U Can do 3D as well where the tank is mounted very high.

Sell the evolution and get a Webra 120 thats one sweat running engine 2 at our club and both have run perfect from day one.

Unless you have lowered the fuel tank in your Excelleron 90 the tank will siphon fuel and give problems setting the carburetor. This is not only a problem with the Evolution engine but any inverted engine.
