Plane Stands / Flight Boxes

Bit of a noob question so bare with me . . . . . . . . . . .

Having a bit of trouble finding a decent plane stand, ideally something that is suitable for working on at home and at the field so needs to be light, i've seen a couple of foam jobs that disasemble as required but i'm wondering what you all do, do you build your own ?

Pics would be helpful as would suppliers.

Thanks

Ian

I make mine from 2 inch pink foam available at building supply stores like Home Depot. Just cut it and glue with silicone rubber. The fuse cutouts I make with a hot wire and paper templates but could be cut as easily with a coping saw. Take a look at the pictures of one under the Oxai E Pinnacle build thread.

I make my stands out of PVC pipe. Here is what I [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=4350117]posted earlier [/link] in the tips & techniques forum.

I bought a use walker (yes for old farts) cut two pieces of form for the fusilage of the plane, screwed them to the handles of the walker and VOLIA a fold up plane stand that you can adjust the height on and if you can get one with the little basket across the front you have a place to hold your tools.

I bought my walker at a 2nd hand store for $15.00 plus $5.00 worth of foam......VOLIA C H E A P !

Wayne Lovett - pattern is my game, learning to fly is my claim.

Here's a good stand that works well, 3/4 or 1" pvc and dont glue it you may need to fold it down to hold certain planes. Folds up and you can find them at garage sales cheap.

My wife is a musician and had a digital piano stand that she never used anymore, so I glommed onto it and put some foam padding on it. It's cheap ($29.95) lightweight, very sturdy, and you can adjust the height on it, and it fold down flat and fits great in the trunk! Link here:

UK Flyer,

Check out the World models stand. I bought two of these from Steve Webb models for around €20 each. Great stand. No fear of denting the fuselages. I use these on my F3A planes and also on my 40 size models (when you flip the stand over, the cut-outs are smaller). Been using these for over two years, no problems. They also dismantle for easy packing of the car,

Regards,
Scorpio.

Try the field buddy from Ultra RC. Well made of veneer over foam, with cabinent quality hinges and latches, so it folds down flat quickly. VERY light and stable. Acts as a cradle, and even a engine run up hold back with the included stakes. Below picture from the Ultra RC website really doesn't do it justice.
