Hyde Mount, how soft should it be?
I just finished installing a YS-140FZ (with appropriate Hyde Soft Mount and nose ring built into the cowl) into my new/used Eclipse and I noticed that the engine almost seems "loose". I have never used a Hyde mount so I expected a little movement but I can physically move the engine up or down 1/8" just grabbing it by the spinner... Am I missing something? I fired her up and she was all over the place [X(]
Maybe I just did not get the mount on tight enough, although it seemed cinched down... hard to get in there and get "torquey"with my T-Handle hex wrenches Thanks! |
RE: Hyde Mount, how soft should it be?
Engine should move in the rotational axis about the prop shaft.
If you are getting the spinner moving around then your nose ring is not properly installed or is loose. The nose ring captures the front bearing of the engine case and keeps it inline. The head of the motor will move a bit maybe 3/8" or more when at idle but once rpms increase it smooths right out and stays pretty still absorbing the high frequency stuff The shake and shimmy at idle is a low frequency vibration and won't hurt your model like the high frequency vibes will. I think your nose ring is loose or is not the appropiate for your engine.

Thanks! The engine came with the nose ring so I know that part is okay... I think I need to add a washer or two to get the nose-ring lined up better with the holes in the cowl. I am on it!
Thanks folks! |
