Resurecting the Sequel
I'm currently resurecting a Sequel and just wondering what is a good place to start the cg. Thanks in advance.[sm=shades_smile.gif]

RE: Sequel CG???
1/4" in front of the wing tube.

RE: Sequel CG???
The other thing to remember is that the Sequel is very sensitive to CG.
You will end up making small changes , like moving the battery 3 or 4 inches, and it will make a real difference. I'm afraid I don't remember exactly where mine ended up. Dean P. |
RE: Sequel CG???
Thanks for the help. I was orginally told center on the wing tube but that seams to require that I add 6oz. to the tail. I really hate adding weight. [sm=shades_smile.gif]

RE: Sequel CG???
Speaking of weight, where did you end up with this plane, and with what equipment?
Thanks, Mark |
RE: Sequel CG???
I ended up at 9lb 15oz. but thats with the 6oz lead weight in the tail.
Set-up Ys120 w/ Hatori header and pipe 8411sa on all surfaces (only using one elevator servo with a pull-pull set up) Airtronics retract servo (the sticker is gone so I'm not sure exactly what it is) Tanic 1550 Lipo receiver pack Medusa 6v bec to reduce the lipo voltage JR770s receiver I'm thinking about rebuilding the wings without retracts and going to fixed gear to save a little more weight. |

RE: Sequel CG???
9lbs is very realistic is your carefull. The pull-pull elevator set up I'm using really helped to save weight. However, its a lot of work to get it perfect.

mini fly,
I sent you a PM. Mark |
RE: Sequel CG???
Mark,
No need to take this off-forum. I just change the subject of the thread. I haven't flown it yet but I hope to have it flight ready real soon. I've only heard good things about this design so I feel that it would be a good first 2M pattern plane. I didn't build this one as I bought it used. However, I have a lot of experience with fiberglass fuses. I enjoy them a lot more than wood kits. The old saying of measure twice, cut once dosen't apply. I always measure as least 4 times and then use a dry erase marker to place temp markings for where I'm going to cut or drill. I've seen a lot of newer pattern pilots with older 2M planes as they can be bought cheap. I like them because they require you to fly them a litter faster then the newer designs. I find that when I fly a plane than can be flown slower my mistakes become very clear, making them hard to hide while being judged. |
RE: Sequel CG???
Sounds good, I look forward to your flight report.

RE: Sequel CG???
Well its finally flight ready. I had to leave 4oz on the tail though. I used a much more accurate (and expensive) scale to check the weight this time. It came out at 9lb 7oz. Its way to windy to fly today[:@] but it should die down by Sunday, so I hope to have it in the air then.

RE: Sequel CG???
mini fly,
Any flight report yet? How about some pics? Thanks, Mark |
RE: Sequel CG???
Michigan weather sucks this time of year so I haven't had a chance to make it to the field yet. I hope to fly Tuesday though.
I'll try and get some pics up latter tonight when I've got more time. |

RE: Sequel CG???
I finally gat a flight in today.:D:D:D:D
I actually got 2. The first was just to trim out the plane. I'm having an issue with getting the aleiron servos to center but I think I know what the cause is. During the second flight I flew the 2007 Sportsman sequence. The YS 120 is the perfect match for this plane. It doesn't have unlimited vertical but does climb at a nice steady rate. It handeled the 07 sequence with ease. Kife edge requires only a little rudder input which makes the slow roll very easy. I was going to try it a second time but teh header and pipe decided to eject from the plane. That was my fault for not securing it correctly. [:@] As soon as I can get a new header and pipe I'll give a real flight report. The only 2 tips I can give is that the CG felt perfect on the wing tube, and if you use retracts make sure to 3pt the landing. I'm actually looking into getting a new kit from PAC this winter to build for the 08 season. I will be using retracts on the next one as the plane just feels to good in the air without fixed gear adding drag. Sorry I don't have pics up yet. My digi cam is broke. :( |
