Sea Bee Setup Help
Hi, I recently bought a second hand Sea Bee. Just finished installing the hardware, electronics and engine.
Can anyone help by letting me know what are the recommended control throws and CG position? Tried going down to the local dealer but they couldn't (or wouldn't) help. Also can't seem to find a Phoenix web site to download a manual. At worst, I'll just try what I think would work, but it would be nice to have a set of known starting points! Thanks. |
RE: Sea Bee Setup Help
Hi efish. Ail-10mm up&down. Ele-12mm up&down. Rud-25mm R%L. CG is 100-110 from the leading edge at the fuse. Mine was nose heavy and moved it back 10mm. All info is from the manual.

RE: Sea Bee Setup Help
Would you report back if you don't mind on the flying characteristics and/or if you had any problems or issues you can share on the see bee?
I am really interested in this model among others as a starting point for my pattern flying skills :D |
RE: Sea Bee Setup Help
From personal experience, the Sea Bee is a great F3A plane. Flys rock solid, goes only where you point it. Mine was eventually balanced at 130mm back from the LE. Ran a Saito .72. Be VERY careful about programming in too much elevator. (See pics) It will do a wicked snap w/too much elevator. I will soon be getting another one.

RE: Sea Bee Setup Help
Hi fadi81, sorry for the delay but I put my fingers into a turning prop and had to lay off for a while .... ouch!
Anyhow, I've finally put in a few flights on the Sea Bee and will happily say that its one SWEET flier! Mine came used through 3 owners the first two of which overpowered the plane, ran heavy stock hardware and came away disappointed. The last owner lightened up the plane a lot and unleashed its true potential. I've got an old YS-63 on mine - its slightly overpowered, but even then, the plane flies really well. I'm only just a newbie, but the plane seems to track like its on rails! Rolls are axial and handling is crisp, precise and a real joy. The plane also floats like a trainer to boot - my first 2 flights with the YS (my first) ended in deadstick landings that seemed almost deliberately perfect! Haven't had much time on it, but so far, its all really good! |
