I know this subject gets beat to death and then we end up talking about Venus 2's or quests at 8.5 lbs with 1.20's. Does anybody still make a true 60 size pattern plane at 7 to 7.5 lbs?

RE: 60 Size

You mean a current design, not a "classic" design? Something designed for the current patterns?

The CA Epsilon 90 would be about the closest you can get to that, I think.

Yeah, a current design.

RE: 60 Size

Jeff,

You might want to look at Hirobo's Astral X-60. 2,65 kg with ys 63, overkill undercarrige/servos/battery and MK dual coupler. I'd say it's possible to put it together at 2,4/2,5 kg if you go light on equipment.

If you want to build - MK Synergy/ys63. A friend flying it at 2,4 kg, but he's building light.

RE: 60 Size

Boysnake,
Thanks, I couldn't find the Astral, but the Synergy seems to be more of a 50 size. I've got a Saito 100 to use and these might be a bit small for it. The CA Models Zafiro was a good size as is the Hansen Runaround (no longer available).

Jeff,

Imex-ProTech makes three different sizes of the Tojeiro pattern ship, 50, 90, and 1.40 size.
I haven't seen the smaller versions fly but the 1.40 version is superb and the price is reasonable.

CA models Matrix is more of a pattern design than Zafiro... Zafiro is designed for ArtisticAerobatics and 3D

Aresti-RCU 12-21-2006 03:35 PM

RE: 60 Size

The CA models Zafiro and Matrix are in fact the same plane, other than they moved the one piece wing lower in the Matrix compared to the wing tube / two piece wing design with the Zafiro. Some small alterations in the chin cowl, (obviously) the pipe tunnel, and the (now) negative diedral stabilizer. But it is still basically the same plane in every respect (including airfoils, moments, bla bla bla)....

Hello,

I also fly an Epsilon 90 for pattern. I is a very good plane with a OS 91 FX and very light construction (3,3 Kg).

Tommy,
Yeah, I've looked at the Tajeiro's before. The 90 size is heavy and the 50 size too small. It's hard to find a true 60 size anymore. seems like it's either 40-50 size or they jump up to 90 size and over 8 lbs. Looking for something around 750 sq inches and 7-7.5 lbs.

RE: 60 Size

Gerhard,
Seems like I'm heading towards either the Zafiro/Matrix or the Epsilon 90. 3.3 kg (7.25 lbs) is a very good weight for a saito 100 to haul around.

I also fly Epsilon 90. 3,7kg with YS 110, Greve pipe and some modification on the plane tgat put some weight on it. Forexample I had to have plug-in stab, higher landing gear, and so on... Won Finnish intermediate F3A class this year with it

Jeff,

Astral X-60: http://model.hirobo.co.jp/products/0014-912/
Singapore Hobby can get you one, as well as the Synergy.

Astral-X 60 is about same size as Kyosho Oxalys 50... But maybe Synergy 90?? I've flown one of those and was good fly. Though this one was not trimmed to suit my flying style...

epsilon 90 and matrix are the same model
in fact, both wings are identical
the matrix is a fiber glass version of the epsilon

The Epsilon 90 is actually a 60 sized model. Building one now. Congratulations Timbba on winning the Intermediate Class. Mine will have a Saito 1.25.

Who carries the Epsilon 90, besides Aeroworks who is out of them?

Haven't seen one but the Fliton Inspire 60 looks promising.

CA Models will ship to the US, someone mentioned that the cost with shipping was about the same as Aeroworks:

I ordered a Widebody 40 kit by calling their old number. It was shipped direct from their warehouse in Miami. This was before Aeroworks became a distributor. You could always call direct and ask. You may get a good price; it's worth trying as shipping by Aeroworks is expensive imo.

RE: 60 Size

Anthony, I am finishing one of these up at present. Not really a pattern type model....has huge control surfaces and should 3D well. We'll see how it does.

In my experience, anyone touting a certain design as a do-all, both 3D and Pattern for example, really knows little about the precision pattern models are capable of. I expect this one to be in that category...... but as a quick, throw it in the back of the car and go fly in a small field type of model, it should have that capability.

MTK,

It may surprise you at how it tracks pattern maneuvers if the Widebody and Galaxy are indicators. I saw a Genesis fly last weekend.

I cut my elevators and ailerons short of the tips as I wanted to fly pattern with it. Should be flying after Christmas day.

editted to change model from Genesis to Galaxy

Look into the widebody 60. Fantastic airplane.

Thanks for all the advice. Looks like the only true 60 size pattern planes are the CA Model Epsilon 90 or widebody 60. I'll give aeroworks a call next week and find out when they will have kits again.

RE: 60 Size

blw,

I intend to set it up for pattern primarily and don't expect much really. Just a quick set up and small crate that I can fly at lunch time in my plant's front parking lot. Will be ready after the holidays

One point to consider is that both the widebod and the genessi are pattern models converted to 3d. The inspir is a 3d attempting to be converted to pattern. Moments in pitch are substantially different between the two model types. We shall see how it does
