GP Venus 40
 

is the venus good for pattern flying? any suggestions on good size 40 pattern planes? and can u use 3d planes like the Ucando or the reactor 40 for pattern flying? thanks.

I would recommend the Kyosho Oxalys 50. Take a look at it. I bought mine from Lindinger Modellbau (http://www.lindinger.at/index.php?language=en) The plane is designed around the YS63 with Hatori shortpipe. Mine flies great, with no coupling in knife edge, and very axial rolls.

The UCANDO is a pleasure to fly but is a 3D plane. I put 100 flights on my UCANDO before recovering from a hover about 6 inches too low. It flies slowly and is very stable. It is not a "pattern" plane. It has a very high drag and slows down very quickly. The ailerons are enormous (like 1/4 of the cord of the wing). It does not spin or snap, because of the lack of a tapered wing. The lack of a spin and snap is great for learning to harrier and hovering but is not great for traditional pattern. If you want to work on 3D get a UCANDO or reaction. If you want to do pattern, get a Venus 2.

The venus 40 is good for pattern. It is low cost and high quality. 40 size planes are a bit small, but cut the cost, which is important for beginers. I have a venus 2, it is excellent for pattern as it is a little bigger, inexpensive, and will do all standard pattern manuevers. It is not a 3D plane.

The reaction is very new. It is a 3D plane but with less drag than the UCANDO. It is trying to be a hybrid inbetween pattern and 3D. The other excellent plane is the Matt Chapman 580 46 size. It is a small IMAC type plane. It can do 3D. It can do pattern. It is not as precise as a VENUS or VENUS 2. It is not as easy to fly as the UCANDO3D. But you can learn to do all the standard and 3D stuff. It looks great and is exceptionally high quality. I have 85 flights on mine and may get another just to have one waiting should a tragedy strike.

You need to make a couple of decisions. Do you want standard pattern plane? Then VENUS or VENUS 2 are good. If you can afford the increased cost of a VENUS 2 over a VENUS, then get a slightly bigger plane (VENUS 2). It will fly better. Do you want to do 3D? Then a Reaction or a UCANDO are excellent. It is a matter of choice.

I have had a UCANDO3D 40 size, it was excellent, a Matt Chapman 580, 46 size, it is excellent, and the Venus 2, it is also excellent. I have not seen the reaction but judging by other Great Planes aircraft, I would guess that is is a very good plane.

thanks guys. forgot to mention on thing i am planning to use my trainers engine and electronics (OS46 ax and some standard digital servos) would the engines power be enough with those planes venus 40, reactor , ucando and now matt chapman cap580? thanks

Yes, OS46 AX has power enough for Venus 40.
