It should be fine for Sportsman pattern if you set it up properly...that is basically cut the throw rates down so that is will fly SMOOTH. You don't need "3D" rates to fly the sportsman maneuvers and too much "maneuverability" will hurt you rather than help you.

I have seen them flown in sportsman the only drawback is high wind they don't handle it well.

Also do not fly fast and do tight turns... that can fold the wing

If it's the only plane you have, then yes, it's better than nothing. The UCD is a great 3D model, and if you like flying it, then do as suggested and reduce the throws on elevators and ailerons to not more than 12 to 15 degrees. Preferably you would do this mechanically, using the shortest available servo arm length and longest available control horn length. That will smooth everything out real nice, and pattern is all about smooth maneuvers. Once you find you're doing the maneuvers well and practicing the current schedule routinely, you can then decide on putting together a plane that's designed for pattern specifically (or at least a hybrid design, of which there are some nice ones available).

Thanx for all toughts.
I' have ucd60 , with no engine. I'll plan to buy 91fx or 120AX. Could you prefer other setup for Precision Aerobatics startup ? |

I would try and find a Venus 60 or something equivalent if you can. I competed with the 40 size u can do and won 3 contests with it in sportsman.
I have seen some rebuild the rudder to lok more like the cermark javelin with good results. Main thing is, have fun with precision it is really a challenge. Chuck |
