Recommendation for two elevator servos
 

I plan of using two elevator servos (one for each elevator half) on a Hydeout. I understand that there is always a compromise between size and power. I would like to take advantage of everyone's experience and ask, "what servo would you recommend if size (smallest) is the primary consideration?". The radio is a Futaba system and to everyone, thanks in advance.

Futaba makes the 9650 servo which is excellent for the elevator halves. Digital, small, light weight and plenty of power.

For Futaba, I have to agree with Mike. The 9650 is the way to go.

Yup, 9650s. Two 9650s weigh the same as one 9255 and have about the same torque too.

I'm using two Hitec HS-5245MG Mini Digitals in my Pinnacle. They are very compact and put out 48.6oz of torque and do 60 degrees in 0.13 seconds on 6 volts.

Help!... How do you mount a Futaba 9650 servo upright? They seem to be designed for a side mount (servo lays on its side) only. I'm set up for a standard top to bottom mount in my fuselage and there is no way to do this because the side mounts get in the way. Do people cut these side mounts off for a top mounting? Enquiring minds want to know....

Yes, cut the side mounts off. Be careful, don't try to snap them off with pliers, you will break the case. I use a small dremel wheel and slowly cut them off, being careful not to hit the wires. I believe the instructions that came with the servo also talk about removing the side mounts.

That's what I thought when I read the instructions. It is not real obvious, here is what it says "When cutting unnecessary flanges of your servo, cut them using a coping saw etc.. Excessive force to servo flanges may brake the servo case."
