has anyone heard about the doublevision designed by chip hyde

Rumor has it that it's going to be a Biplane. I think it might just be a twin.

Couple of YS110 would sure be cool.

Double Vision

Its like Double Secret Probation.

We could tell you what it looks like but then we would have to kill you...Sorry

The cat will be out of the bag soon guys maybe by the Team Trials in June...maybe by the worlds in August...Patience is a virtue!

The more its kept secret, the less I seem to care about it.

I cannot figure out why its so secret anyway. Its a model for goodness sake. jeezz!

He will fly it well, probably place well at the worlds, and the price to play with it will be $1200 kit. $3000 ARF.

Out of my range already, and I dont even know what it is.

Caprise

CPLR in the 97' worlds showed for the first time the Caprise...It was a CAP Surprise...Similar theory. You know it would be foolish for Chip to show pics of the plane...when it has not even been flown trimmed and proven yet. Maybe things will change signifigantly before its done. Who knows....He's not trying to impress anybody...he's just working on new design...

The name of that new design is "Double Vision" take that to what mean what ever you like. If you have noticed all the top guys have a new plane every worlds....The Smaragd Z...now the Partner for Quique....The Smaragd now the Lazulite for the Matt's....The Alliance then the Synergy and now the.....? another surprise huh? for the CPLR

You know that it matters to the big boys what the latest design changes actually bring. Now people get upset that a design that has not flown yet...and is not trimmed out and ready to compete for a another world title is not a public knowledge airplane.....What happens if its a Turd...what happens if its the best F3A model ever....Well we will soon find out.....How many mods need to be made to the prototypes? Will those require cosmetic changes.....or will they be subtle changes...Who knows yet.....It has to fly first! Its a very different concept not just another F3A model......There is a lot more involved in the concept than a F3A bipe...its a revolution in F3A....others at the top are working on surprises too....just relax and enjoy the boys at the top playing for the top title in the world.

Good Point.

I would like to clarify the secrecy part.

When designers make a new design, it is with the intent of creating a winning airplane. They protect their advantage that they have spent many hours (many hundreds of hours) drawing, drafting, and creating.

If the airplane will go into production, then there are royalties to gain (these are very small amounts per airframe and perhaps if enough copies are sold it may help defray the costs of a couple of nice dinners), but those royalties are only payed to the designer by the company licensed by the designer to produce the airplane. Why, then, is it kept secret. Well, the tooling needed to go into production of a new F3A airplane with unique parts can cost up to $20,000.00 (thought they were really cheap to make and the manufacturers just want to get rich, did'nt you). It takes about two to three years to break even on that design, and then you have to hope that you can sell a few more to make a little cash to pay the rent. Hopefully, you can do that before the design is pirated and unauthorized copies are produced in China and sold as an ARF with no royalties to the designer.

As far as the company releasing the design, it is not the company's choice. The designer authorizes if and when and what can be released. Guess what. If the designer cancelles the project and says no, it will not be produced, then it does not get produced, at least not if the company ever wants to get another design from the same person again.

Recently, one company had an unauthorized release of one of it's designs. That company's new design production was due to start in late April, but a Chinese ARF maker has already produced several thousand for a Western based company that took the pictures and produce it as it's own design. To make matters worse, the Chinese ARF has had incredible structural failures, and this could have an adverse effect on the original when it is released.

Chip talked a little about the new plane in the IMAC forum in the 'Bipe Wishes' thread. Over 1600 square inches, cool.

The simplest reason I can think of why we haven't said what we know about the design is..

Chip asked us not to say anything. I respect Chip's wishes in this and it shouldn't have to go any deeper than that.

Good point Doug

I think you hit the very bottom line there.

Evidently the cat is out of the bag. I emailed chip asking about production timing, and he emailed me a picture of it.

I know Chip is planning on flying the prototype this weekend (or before). I still won't post the pics until I hear from him that it's ok..
