Help! Need Advise Boxer 45 Wing construction
 

I'm doing my second foam wing and I need some advise from someone that has done a Salient Designs Boxer.
1) Does the Boxer 45 really need the1/2" by 1/32" L shaped plywood wing spar? I have been advised to skip it, and I'm not sure what to do.
2) For the landing gear blocks I have been advised to sheet the wing then cut a hole for the maple blocks and glue them in. The Boxer plans show a plywood structure ( W1,2,3) that you install before sheeting the wing, then gluing the maple block in later. Which is the better way to go? Does a small plane like the Boxer 45 need the extra ply structure?

I haven't built a boxer but I might be able to shed some light on the internal structure of the LG mounts...

Basically these aren't used so much to do anything except spread the load from the maple blocks... If you don't fit them you can almsot guarauntee that they'll tear out in a hard landing..

Mounting landing gear in the wing has always been a graunching issue with me.. I'd fit the spreader ply bars, and when gluing, worry more about gluing the webs to the sheeting than to the foam, in fact, if you don't fit the webs, the amount of epoxy you'd need to get a good bond would be pretty horrific. The strength in a foam wing isn't really in the foam....

What is the wing span of Boxer 45?
I only have seen 60, 90, 120.

I think you can skip the L shaped spar for normal smooth flying.
I have not built the Boxer, but had Boxer 90 cores and read the instruction manual.
My plan for the spar was to use carbon strip of 3/4 or 1/2" width. but not L shaped.

however, you won't get much trouble with the spar if you plan to do lots of snaps.

I wish I didn't sell the core. If I get a chance to have one, I will be building it as fixed gear with larger control surfaces.
