Hypothetical question
Hi
Has anyone ever swapped a Mintor 170( same as OS 140 dimensionally) for a YS 140 or 160. If so how difficult was it. Mike |
RE: Hypothetical question
I have swapped an OS 1.40 for a YS 1.40. It was pretty easy the OS is a touch shorter but not enough to matter and lighter. Also, had to change the nose ring. It was a DZ so the plumbing was the same. The plane had a long tunnel so the two stroke pipe was no problem.
Hope this helps. |
RE: Hypothetical question
Hi
Interesting when i looked up the numbers last night I thought the YS came out 3.5mm shorter than the OS from the centre of the mounting lug to the prop driver. My reason for asking is too have a back up plan for my Synergy. So far it has run okay with the Minto but in case it proves a problem I am looking for a back up plan. Pricipal problem is the header keeps coming adrift but i beleive there is a fix for that. ( ps One of my pet hates is manufacturers using modellers to do there development). Mike |
RE: Hypothetical question
I am swapping my old faithfull OS 140 for a YS170. I just bolted it in the same mount. I changed the nosering but I didn't try the older one. Spinner ended up in the same position. I am using slightly undersize bolts so I guess they allow for a couple milimiters change.
There is a big change in the CG though. The OS engines itself is about 4 oz lighter and you have at least half of the tuned pipe behind the CG. I was using a heavy 5 subC cells nicd pack to balance the servos (S9650) located in the stab (plane is an Osmose from Argentina) I just put a Thunderpower 2100 Mah 2 cell lipo in place (the regulator was already there for the 5 cell pack) Test flight is today.... |
RE: Hypothetical question
Hi
Adjusting the CG is not a problem as I have a big lump of lead in the nose to compensate for the twin servos in the tail plane. I am intending to try the plane as it is with the suggested fix for the tuned pipe and try extensive ground runs with it first. If I have confidence in it I will fly the plane but I dont want to fly aerobatics with half my brain thinking when is it going to quit on me also our flying field is very tight and I really dont want to risk what is a very expensive airframe on repeated dead stick landings. No matter how good your luck is one day it WILL run out. Hence my back up plan of going with a YS if necessary. Mike |
