I'm really hoping for a good showing this year. We have a 40' by 500' runway with plenty of pit area (starting stands available) and ample parking right at the entrance. There is a Holidy Inn Express and Holiday Inn nearby - both only five miles from the field.

You can count me in. Planning on coming over Friday. Looking forward to seeing the pattern crew as I missed them earlier in the year, as we had a small problem with to much water up here.

John, it would be interesting just to see, but don't worry about lugging it over.

Hey Claude, is the P or the F FAI sequence being flown?

We are flying the P sequence for all rounds.

Claude, Brad, Robert, Ron and all my friends out there in Omaha.

I would love to attend this year. I just didn't plan far enough ahead. Sorry its a long haul from Phoenix and can't make it this year. I wish I would have thought far enough in advance we might have been able to swing it. But right now I'm still recovering from Muncie. It was a long week for sure.

Anybody that can make it this club does things right. They have a great facility and put on a good contest. I miss being close enough to attend. maybe we can work it out for next season.

The Holiday Inn Express has a pool. [link=http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ex/1/en/hotel/OMABH/event-facilities]Pool Pictures[/link]

6939 North 102nd Circle
Omaha, NE 68122

So does the Holiday Inn. [link=http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ex/1/en/hotel/omawc?&cm_mmc=mdpr-_-googlemaps-_-ex-_-omawc]Pool Pictures[/link]

11515 Miracle Hills Drive
Omaha, NE 68154
(877) 863-4780

As previously mentioned, both of these are within five miles of the field, according to Google Earth. There are other hotels that are a little farther as well.

Hey guys,
I checked the weather channel, today. Partly cloudy, mid to upper 70's, for next weekend.
Looks like Claude's order for good weather is coming through.

Maybe, just maybe, I can have the Freestyle ready. Of course, my flying abilities are a little suspect.
But, for my first Pattern Contest, I'm a little excited.

At any rate I'll be there to help.

EJ

EJ, let me know if you need help with the freestyle. Get that engine going and triple check all linkages so you don't have any more days that are no-go because of a misadjusted component.

Don't worry about it. I think I'm going to switch back to my Futaba 6EX, but I don't like the idea of using a PPM receiver. The only reason my 2M isn't scattered across the field is because my failsafe let the airplane fly around slowly by itself long enough to regain control. [X(]

Here are some pictures from day 1. The turnout is pretty good, and it was great to see the guys again. I even improved my flying quite a bit just from a few of Rusty's and Robert's tips. This is better than Christmas!! [8D]

I wish everybody luck with their flying tomorrow, except that guy that is scoring ahead of me (you know who you are) ;)

What a great bunch of flyers.
Everyone willing to help anyone with, flying suggestions, repairs, set up suggestions.
This was my first R/C flying competiton, EVER. I've only been flying for 3 years.
This was an experience I will cherish for a long, long time.

Claude and Nathan, both, sort of took me under their wing, (so to speak), and did a fantastic job introducing me to pattern flying.
Even while they were both busy with there own, responsibilities, they were right there, to offer help and encouragement.

Thanks, very much, fellas. I am hooked. And, I fully intend to work at improvong my flying abilities. After all, I seem to read, and am told a lot, pattern flying will make you a better pilot.
I think this weekend has done a good job of pointing me down the right path.

Personnel thoughts aside...

As President of the Omahawks, I wanted to take just a sec, to say thank you to everyone that attended.
It was great meeting some new folks, and, returning Omahawks members, (Rusty Dose). Looking forward to seeing everyone, again, next year.

And, of course, thanks to all the club members that helped behind the scenes.

Having a long trip back to MSP I left before the festivities were over. I did say thanks and goodby's to Claude and others, but really meant to say a word of thanks to each of the volunteer helpers. I was impressed from the beginning with their involvement and enthusiasm (and humor) ** running score sheets, punching in the numbers, cooking, setting up ** everything! I hope the Omahawks that graze in this section of RCU will please pass my compliments on to all of them! It was a great contest and they were a large contributor to its success!

Thanks and hope it will happen again next year. I had fun!

Sorry I missed it....long drive now from D2. I did wave to you guys Sat and Sun from 39,000 and 38,000 feet respectively as I went by. I was going to rock the wings too but that probably would have been a bad idea anyways.

Omaha Pattern Championships,

This event is very special to me as a long time former Omahawk member and the fact that this event was my first Pattern contest in 1978. I flew my Dirty Birdy .40 in Sportsman, a class updated and refined by Wisconsin's Mike Dorna called Club Class, to a first place finish (at least that is what the notes on the back of a photo found last night featuring the Dirty Birdy .40 and Kougar in my driveway.)

The 1978 (I was 14) event is particularly memorable because I "cleared the flight line and judges chairs" after my 90 degree turn towards the pits on my first flight due to EXTREME nervousness!

Thank you to Claude and all of the tireless Omahawks for another fine event.

The Omahawks club photographer kicked me off of the computer for quite a while last night to post more photos from the pattern contest. You might keep checking back to the pattern gallery as more and more photos get uploaded:

For those folks who wanted to be there but had scheduling conflicts, send Claude a PM and he'll hook you up with an attractive and comfortable t-shirt for a very modest price!
