Hi All
Can i use the HCMYS110A ( Hyde anti vibration engine mount ) for my YS-110 without nose ring ?

I have the same mount in an Ultra R/C Quest II I flew as a Sportsman season before last.
I ran it without nose ring.
I never ran the plane with anything else so I have nothing to compare to.
I do know my plane was MUCH quieter in the air than other sport planes running a 1.10 hard mounted.
I believe it also helped the longevity of the plane and equipment.

Dear Sir,
I also use it for my Venus II with YS110 with no nose ring. YS motors will always come on my model with a Hyde mount.
It is so much better then anything else I have tests and used. Yes it helps allot in keeping the model.
My Venus II is close to 1000 flights and looks like new.

I ran my YS110 (old style) on the hyde mount with and without the nose ring in a wooden airframe (Voodoo Express 2).

Without the nose ring, I could visibly see the spinner moving laterally both in vibration mode (kind of blurry at the tip) and in offset as the throttle was raised and the torque effect pulled it off to the side. Not horrible enough to hurt anything on the airframe, but definatley noticeable.

I added the nose ring and was astounded at the difference. Of course all of the lateral nose displacement was gone, but it was also amazing how much quieter the whole setup was.

IMO - If you can run the nose ring, it is absolutely worth the effort. If not, it will still work.

also is it possible to use regular washers to adjust the right thrust angle ? i heared that you can't use washers with hyde mount like with regular mount.

My cowling is vibrating loose (screw holes enlarging) after only 50 flights or so with the engine (YS110) hard-mounted to the firewall. For those using the nose ring, have you noticed any extra wear to the cowl mounts? I'm going to try to maufacture a "Hyde" mount and give it a go.

I make mine out of lite-ply...I cut hole approximately 2mm diamter larger than the boss on the front of the motor and then line the hole with a piece of silicon fuel tubing split longways. holds up well for many flights (100's). I've also used the integrated nose ring mount on a Venus II it was very good, but you have t beef up the firewall because the nose ring support cantilevers off of the center of the firewall.

I would use the nose ring. As rwlewis said you will notice movement in the spinner which means changes in the thrust angles. You will notice this change when doing certain loops and roles. It will never trim out and it will do odd things when you are trying to modulate the throttle. That's my 2 cents!

I understand that i need to use nose ring !
but how i can adjust the side thrust ?? the build in side thrust is 1.5 degree and i need 3 !
in my current hard mount setup i am using some washers in the left side to obtain the required angle.
is it possible to do the same with the hyde mount ? is that going to have any impact on the vibration damping ?

Anytime I've needed to put in some right thrust I cut a piece of 1/8" plywood ( or thicker ) a bit bigger than the mount footprint. I then proceed to sand it on an angle to give me the degrees I need. I soak it with a little thin CA and put it between the mount and firewall. This way the mount is completely supported in an even manner and doesn't really even know it's not bolted directly to the firewall. This all takes no more than 20 mins. to accomplish - just take it easy with the sanding block and check it often. Try it and if it's not enough sand a bit more.

Thanks Don i can try it... but i guess it's very difficult to keep the surface flush especialy on that small thin block ( ~ 3mm )
is there some accurate tool for that task ?

Yes there is. It's called a steady hand and a good eye :D I have done this on maybe 10 occasions over the years and have been satisfied with the results MOST of the time. And I am legally blind in one eye :D really I am. They told me I was wasting my time trying to learn to fly R/C. That was 23 years ago and I'm still going, even have a few trophies ;)

Try it, it's not hard at all and plywood is cheap, at least where I live.

If you're planning the big right thrust experiment, and you're using a nose ring, you'll be needin to have the mount to firewall blind nuts mounted on a separate plate, free from the firewall and cut horizontal slots in the firewall instead of holes. As you add right thrust you'll need to progressively offset the mount in the opposite direction.
You'd be surprized that 1deg' extra originating from the prop hub is considerable offset by the time it reaches the firewall.
Make sense?... I'm in doubt myself[:o]

Hi All,
Maybe someone can help me with the hyde mount measures. first of all is the hyde mount ( HCMYS110A ) for YS-110 have predrilled holes for the engine ? if so what is the length from the mount back side to the first hole ? i need to know that since i am quite sure that if i will replace my existing mount the spiner backplate will move 20mm forward and it can be big problem. i have looked for those measures on central hobbies but i can't find it there

THe beams are drilled for the motor and blind nuts installed....

The distance from the back face of the mount to the front face of the drive washer with the motor mounted is approximately 5.47 inches.

also did you use any beams to support the nose ring ? from what i understand removable caul is usually not stiff enough to hold the nose ring vibrations and i guess my caul fall into that category it's Tai-Ji 60 ( i want to install the nose ring but to minimize the complexity...... )

The plane I use my homemade nosering on is wooden and supports the nose ring.

If you need to use one with a cowl, look at the Focus Sport thread, there are details of beefing up a cowl to support a nosering.

Or...you can buy the hyde mount with the integrated nosering (Type ARIA).

This is in reply to the nose ring, from a 5 month old post. I was told that a nose ring is recommended for the YS110 in the Focus Sport. I wanted to keep it away from the cowl and copied this from "Ed's Pattern Page", on the Senior Pattern site. It is made from Dave Brown pushrod material, and aluminum T-Type nuts. The allen screws in the front, will be replaced by aluminum panhead screws. Plate is 1/8" ply, glassed. Added a tiny bit of weight here.
