Pattern Plane reccomendation

Hi,
Mike in Memphis TN here. I am new to pattern and want to get something reasonably priced to see if I like it. The following considerations:
wingspan 64-68 inch.
2 stroke engine.

Ideas appreciated.

The Venus II by Great Planes would suit you perfectly. It meets your size specifications, is a nice quality plane that is easy to assemble, is comparatively inexpensive, and is a great introductory pattern plane. It flies great and performs great with a 2 stroke engine. I have the OS 120AX in mine (is my first pattern ship too =) which is a dynamite combination. Once I flew this plane I was immediately hooked on flying pattern planes, even just for sport flying - the plane does exactly what you tell it to and flies exactly where you tell it to fly - like it's on rails.

There is a whole Venus II thread in the pattern forum, you should check it out.

Plane is available from Tower Hobbies, and they have a $25 off special going on:

Do you want to build or do you want an ARF? What size engine do you want to use?

90-120 2 stroke. I already have a good Super Tigre 90 so 90ish would be good.

RE: Pattern Plane reccomendation

CA Models Epsilon 90
Great Planes Venus II
Zimpro Viper 91
World Models Groovy 90
Hangar 9 Showtime (there is a thread on setting one up for pattern)
Focus Sport if you want to use a bigger engine than your ST 90

All come to mind

If you like building, keep an eye on ebay. There are sometimes old MK and pilot kits that come up. A Pilot Seduction 90 just went for about $180. These old Japanese kits are superb, and many of them, like the Seduction, Aurora, Blue Angel etc, make good entry level flyers.

This is another classic, but definatly an advanced building project. It is still active as of this post.

I like most of the CA models pattern planes, however, the only place I see to buy them is through aero-works and they are all sold out. Is there another distributer?

Never mind. Found the CA Models website. The USA Dealer is netboxhobby.com. Looks like the only one available in the size/price is the Epison 90. Will a Super Tigre 90 be enough power?

RE: Pattern Plane reccomendation

They have the 60 as a builders kit but if you look closely at teh specs the 60 and 90 are about the same size so the ST 90 you have should do well.
