Thoughts on my new design.

I've flown my current ship to death, and it's now starting to show it's age, and also perhaps some design flaws that I didn't notice before, but as my skill level has increased it's time to upgrade.

SO, here we have the preliminary design for the new one. Based Loosely on the Japanese beauties we see, with A revised airfoil (thick trailing edge and thickness at around %40 of chord) a lower A.R. to allow more controlled looping, and a deep fuselage with more forward area to get better K.E.

Single peice wing, to allow for a stronger fuselage, and all balsa/foam construction.

What do you think?

Very nice. What purpose does the sharp angles at the cowl line serve? It's encouraging for someone to take on the daunting task of building/designing their own ship.

If you want somthing on the smaller side like you've drawn, have you considered one of John Paynes Cyclone's, or if you want big, his Tempest is certainly that.

How can you tell how big that airframe will be from the screen shot he posted?

Ppljr, the sharp cowl lines are a look that has been transferred from the last ship, giving a nice stable platform (on the v1) for the MK style mounts, even though this one will have a hyde mount, I do like the look of the fuselage sides turning into a set of cowl cheeks. So in answer to your question, partially cosmetic, partially not.

but, before all, i have a question

im just about to cover my wings, its 100 % nessesary to put a fiber reinforcement over the wing tube?, under the balsa sheet?

Hi xcead

Great job.
Link with 2 wings pieces building by Sylvain Pasini. On this thread you have answer at your question.

I have some questions about your design I like. What are the maximal height and width of the fuse ?
regards

hi papaone

the max height is 29 cm , and the max width is 15 cm

the link was very usefull, i've sheeted wings before, but this is my first one with a wing tube, for what i saw around internet, its very common to sheet them with epoxi resin, and use glass fiber to reinforce it...can I have some tips of how to do it correctly ?

I like your desing too!! thanks for your reply

Hi Xcead

Width of Oxalys, Intégral is about 15,5 cm as your pattern. But height is about 32 cm to 34 cm.
May be you can increase height of your design to get easy knife edge !

An example of building all in wood. Click on picture and you'll see the others pics

RE: Thoughts on my new design.

papaone, thanks for your advise

the plane will be flown in the lower classes, not FAI, it was designed thinking on that , so some issues about flying F-09 and P-09 of course are forgotten.

if there is a plane #2 ( i hope so ) , yes it will be designed for FAI, but now is much easier to build and fly in the lower classes.

i just want the plane flyes straight, rolls axialy, snaps like a solid rock. For my first desing, its a goal!

sorry for my english...i try to do my best
