My wife of 18 years had the nerv to tell me to take my Genesis off the dining room table and put it of all places on the basement floor. She has family coming over. What should I do? I cant put the plane in the dark and dreary basement but I dont want a fight to Interfere with the new year celibration after everyone leaves. Im open to ideas. Thanks Jim

Come on give me a break. This answer is so easy. Let me see plane on basement floor. New Years eve party.
Let's see honey my plane was damaged sitting on the floor someone stepped on it or kicked it. And then you get a new airplane. Leave the old one in the basement for another week while you are ahem fixing it. Then after the new plane is ordered bring the plane upstairs and show off your repair.
Then when you show up at a contest next year with four missing teeth and a broken nose. we will no just what kind of a man you really are. And we will also know that your wife was not fooled by the plane getting stepped on. Oh well you still got a new plane and well she probably got a new purse and shoes only slightly more expensive than your new plane. Oh well easy come easy go.
And she divorces you. Well that's your own fault for listening to a single man.
Good luck with the new plane.

Only one thing to do - get rid of her! 18 years or not, she has crossed a line that should never be crossed. You might want to wait until the company has gone before you let he know that it's all over.:D

Ditch the wife and get a girlfriend. Girlfriends are much more tolerent of stuff like airplanes on the table.

Jim,
Boy, tough crowd here! LOL Sounds like you need to do what I did: make the spare bedroom into an "airplane room". Now my airplanes have heat in the Winter and air-conditioning in the Summer. They never had it so good. I still build in the basement but it's a finished basement so it's not too bad. Unless you have a glass table in the dining room it's probably not flat enough to build a Pattern plane on anyway. Set up a nice shop in the basement. With some latex paint on the walls and a little carpeting on the floor it might not be so bad. :)

No, I'm not married but it's probably a good idea to put the ariplane somewhere "safe" until after the festivities are over (your wife is kinda right). LOL

You guys are hilarious ... hahahahaahaaa ... dining room tables are meant for eating and once a year is not that bad is it bearing in mind she had to take 18 years of marriage? Hehehehe ...

Been there with ya Pattern Nut! Married for 20yrs and had to take the wings off my Venus and put it in the attic for a few days, kept the tx and flight batteries on my night stand though! Been too windy or stormy for flying here anyway. Probably the same where you are, so its a good idea to cozy up to "honey" unless you want to sleep in the basement too!

I say put the plane on the KITCHEN table and tell the guests you'll all be eating in the basement.

RE: What should I do?

Hey Jim 31 years here. My advise to you is to do what she asks you to do. I have 2 daughters ( #2's getting married on Saturday wooohooo!) my wife and 3 female dogs so I think I speak with experience on women (hahahahahahahaha). I've learned to stay away from conflict. When it comes to the planes there are very few women who get what we do. The ones who do probably have an agenda and I wouldn't trust them. Heck I don't even try to get them to like it anymore I mean what's the use? If the wife shows any interest I encourage it but it doesn't mean anything and it doesn't last.
Here's some simple rules for mixing planes with a happy relationship.
emmm no no that one didn't work. How bout this one- opps no that backfired ahhh let me see nope that one was just stupid. ahh forget it!
That's right there aren't any so we all have to wing it and chill out. Maybe's it's the hormones or lack there of.
Happy New Year everyone.
Mike

...Hang your wife from the ceiling - nah, too much work!!
From the very beginning (of my marriage - no workshop in the womb) I've always fought for (and gotten) a workshop somewhere in the house (in the basement except for the house in Wilmington, NC - no basement - used the room over the garage). A little 'discusion' to get the workshop saves lots of arguements later!!
Happy New Year:D:D

RE: What should I do?

Until recently I've been happily single/divorced in a two bedroom apartment in which the second room is my workshop. I say, "until recently", because I started dating a wonderful woman who happens to be a fullsize helicopter pilot and she supports my (fixed-wing) hobby and has even expressed some interest in it herself. So how does all this pertain to you? Simply, a place for everything and everything in it's place. Move the airplane off of the dining room table! You'll be happier in the end.

RE: What should I do?

If she was sowing on the table would you ask her to move ?

hugger-4641 01-01-2009 09:14 PM

RE: What should I do?

That's a good point, my wife can leave her sewing machines and home interior projects on the table for weeks and its ok, but my planes have to go after a few days and constant frowns. But if I've learned any thing in 20 yrs; "even if I'm right I'm still wrong, and as long as Mama's happy, everyone's happy right?

Stand up, be a Man!! Tell her you pay for half the house too, and your half is the dinning room table. Company coming over will now be the least of your problems.

hugger-4641 01-02-2009 01:10 AM

RE: What should I do?

Actually, I pay for all the house! But if I want to stay there in peace, I won't be following your advice any time soon!:D

RE: What should I do?

If you guys play chess then you will see how this all works out. All the other pieces can move on a certain manner, movement is limited. The King only can move one step at a time but in any direction. The Queen in many many steps in many directions compared with the King and other pieces (except the Horse, so that means she is NOT a nag). Does that not say something? :) Remember always keep the peace at home ... hahahaahahaa

I solved the same problem inviting the plane to the dinner too... Is your table big enough? Just add one chair.
