Eclipse power question
Hello everyone,
I was wondering which of these engines are best fore the ECLIPSE. (from CA models) The new Webra RACING 160 XP with MC carb , the Ys 140 L , the YS DINGO , OS 140 RX or 3M 170 . Thanks, |
Eclipse power question
My setup:
YS 140 Sport FZ 20% CoolPower Hatori pipe CD Products Header 16x11 APC prop @8400 rpm weight : 10 lbs 2 ozs Plenty of Power. I am no great pilot, not even close, I like to play alot more than practice, I did some power hungry manuvers like HUGE Hourglasses , Rolling vertical manuvers of different sorts, etc, and was never at a lack of getty-up-go. I also had the OS 140 on it with a power robbing muffler, and it was just as good, but lacked the slowing down ability of the 4S YS. The downlines carried to much speed no matter what I did to prevent it, including trying a 4 blade prop. |

Mines closer to 11lbs with a DZ. Power is just plain silly.

Aerobaticsdude,
Is yours an ARF version? 11 lbs is not a problem ,I wouldnt think, with this plane ( mine just floats around 10.2) just wondering if the ARFS are a bit heavier built. I bet the DZ is a bundle of fun power. I may put one in mine for kicks. |
Eclipse power question
I wish I could claim it was an arf. This is the first pattern plane I've built, first all composite fuse and I just got to carried away with the paint. Painting isn't my strong suit. Not sure of the exact weight, I'll be getting a digital scale in the next week or so.
At the weight it is, it flies very well and still floats like you say. I haven't bought a glow engine in several years. I'm totally amazed at how the DZ pulls and so far it hasn't missed a beat. |
Eclipse power question
. First Pattern plane built and completed yourself.
Under 11 lbs, I would say congrats on a job well done. First 120 plane I built was a Vortex from RC City. Weight: ... 12 lbs. Had a very pretty paint job though, and its flew fine for me. Later sanded the paint off, got it down to 11.5 with new paint :) Guess I used to much epoxy on the wings in those days, as well as bullet proff Retract mounts. |

Hi PatternJunkie aka "GW",
I could reed that you have the YS 140 FZ in your ECLIPSE and I wonder, compare to mine condition here if it will be plenty of power. I’m from ARUBA and the wind here is about 15MpH (constantly)!!! Thanks, |
Eclipse power question
I would think it would be perfect. If any doubt there is always 30% nitro in the FZ , and if any question beyond that , the DZ is TopDog in power.
Here at appox 600' asl the 20% nitro in the 140 FZ is wonderful. I may use 30 Heli in the summer months coming up. |
Eclipse power question
Hmm, I was looking at those specs for the 140 sport and am now concerned I am not getting the full potential out of my 140L...
I am running 30% nitro and it is turning an APC 16x12 at 8k with the Hatori 698 pipe. Is this what you would expect? The plane flies well and it pulls like a train but it sounds like I may be missing out on a few hundred rpm. I am flying at no more than 500ft asl... |

From what folks like Troy Newman. Jim Ivey, etc have told me, the L is about 2-300 rpm stonger than the FZ. But the sport may have a differnet carb( I dont know) and it may close the gap a bit more. I am new to the 140 YS's , so I can offer little info on the differences in performance.
Troy? Jim? |
