Osmose ARF Version - ys 160?
Hello,
Well, just bought the Osmose before 2 months ago ( second hand ) and ofcurse here comes the big problem : the weight of the model for now is 4980 gram. Additional details : Engine : OS-FS-200-P. Engine mount : Hyde Mount - UNIVERSAL Battery(electric) : FlightPower 1350mah (7,4) + DigiSwitch. Prop : Meijzlik carbon fiber 18X10. RPM : 8200. The rest - the orginal parts which came with the ARF Deluxe Version. From the first flight it was easy to see that the engine (OS-200) cant be good enough for the Osmose, it so critical the model just cant keep on 90 degree status for more than 8 seconds. Yes, its could be because of the heavy weight reason of the model, but ... Its clear - that model just not the best for F3A and maybe need to be sold - but - I wanted to ask if its possible to run the Osmose with Ys-160 Engine (i can remove more parts from the model so the weight limit for 5 KG isnt the problem ) so the model can be good enough for F3A for the minimum performance.. Thanks]] Mongol, Rest assured that the Osmose is a top level FAI plane providing it is setup "basically" OK. 8200 rpms on the 18x10 should give tremendous vertical unless your are at very high altitude or something. The YS 160 would be plenty of power for it as well. Do you have F3A eperience? What is the 8 second 90 degree test? thanks Jim |

Osmose is an exelent model, here in Venezuela there are 2 osmose with YS 1.60 one of them weigths 4.980, very competitive model. Regards TUNY |

In the test i tried to check the vertical flight of the model as you mentioned. but unfortunately thats found really bad, my previous model ( Alliance with os 140RX ) did great work in vertical flight ( really tremendous vertical) . but for now with the Osmose i can do the "Stall" exercise with full engine, so its really surprise to hear that the engine is basically enough for my requests.. *** Maybe you know what is the weight difference between YS-160 and OS-200 ( w header+tune ) ? - from my check - os-fs-200-p + hatori 824 ( tune ) + header - 1013 gram. Have you tried the APC 18,1x10, 18,1x11 or 19x11?
I've heard the standard 200 is not the ultimate performer for F3A, but it should be more than capable! Swinging a 18x10 prop at 8200 should be enough... I've never used Mejzlik on F3A planes though. As for the weight, I don't know the Osmose "personally", but I find it hard to believe that you should have a problem in vertical as long as you stay below the magic 5k. |

The FS200P doesn't put out anywhere near the power of a YS 1.60 or 1.70 as it is not supercharged. Only the EFI version of the FS200 is supercharged. I have an Osmose EVO, and rarely go over 3/4 throttle with my 1.70, and will do unlimited vertical at about 60% power, with an APC 18.1x10W on 30% nitro. It is a little over 4900 g. A YS 1.60 would be plenty of power.

Are you sure your Osmose is under 5Kg? My first Osmose equiped with the 160 had unlimited vertical at 2000Ft field elevation, at sea level is rare when you need full power from the 160. When you said it is not a capable performer, well, it ended 2nd place at the last worlds!!!!! You should try a 17x13 instead of the 18, you might be loading the engine so much I think it might be accelerating kind of slow in flight, and the OS 140 is a great engine, but is really a toy compared to the performance of the YS. Change to the YS 160 and it will be a completly different aircraft, start with APC 17x12 and 30% nitro, after 6 gallons of fuel try the 17x13 if the engine is new. If you are not running high nitro on the OS it will never give the required performance, and remember the OS 200 is a sport engine not intended for precision aerobatics power . And as John just said there is no comparison in power between your OS model and the YS. Regards |

Pumped OS 200 is about 50 grams lighter than YS160, so you need to lose some weight to make the change.
8200rpm with 18x10 sounds quite a lot for OS, my 200S is hitting 8100rpm with APC 16x12 and 30% nitro. Anyway pull is decent with my 4750g plane. Try a smaller prop before making any bigger changes. Give for example 16x12 a try, your engine should turn it quite a bit and not lose rpms so much on uplines. JE |
