Flying in Taiwan
 

I may be going to Taiwan for the next 18 Months and don't know anything about the place. Are there any clubs and fields? What about hobby shops and supplies? I want to stay in practice for next summer's events in the U.S. I guess it wold be best to get there and get a plane and equipment there as apposed to bringing my U.S. stuff.

taipei - i now 2-3 airfields arround the city area
it depends where are going to stay
i have lived in taiwan for 3 years - actually i have started to practice RC flying there - in mode 1

tanshuei city is about 12km from taipei center - theres an un build area there wuth the asphalt allready there so u can fly anything there

i dont remeber the other 2 but i will email my taiwanese friends and let u know:)

man, you are in the hart of the manufacturing- allthough most is made in china but the money and invesments are made by taiwanese

2 blocks from the taiwan trade cebter theres a huge shop for RC plane
you can go to all the american brands that export outsid ethe USA and look under dealers - this would be a good start

man, i would do a lot to have the chance to go and work in taiwan again:)

Thanks for the promising outlook.
I will be near Taipe (sp) working on a project on the west side of Taiwan. I'm glad that there is some hope on keeping up my flying while away. I'm not sure if stuff is reallt cheaper there or if I travel to Japan or China to get what I need. I'm not a world traveler type and need to check into the +- of buying overseas.

Give me more detail info such as which city you will live, what kind of flying style (sports, scale, pattern or IMAC; electric or nitro etc.) you are looking for. I will notify my friends in Taiwan when you go there.
RC gears in general are cheaper than in US. You better take your 2.4GHz with you. Since not many mode-2 available and freuency control is always a problem.
Taipei Model Aircraft Association is the biggest club in north Taiwan. IMAC style is the most popular style in there (they call TOC plane)

regarding the prices - very cheap as far as i remeber, china is cheaper so you will save on shipment cost

Hi All;
I'm starting to look foward to my new project. I was not sure what to expect. Should I bring one of my 9303 2.4's and Recs? I don't want to ship any of my planes from here and risk dammage. I'm hoping to pick something up local. I currently run YS 140's in 2 meter pattern and have started to experement with electric pattern. I have also been flying some IMAC gas planes and attempting the 3D world, so I am fairly open to aircraft types but would like to stay patternThis is starting to look like fun to fly in a new enviroment, however I only speak English which should add a new dimension to my usual flying environment.

Yes, it is still active, but space is quite limited. I checked the club blog at RCTW, somebody still fly in there.

If you are going to south Taiwan such as Kaoshong area, you may find quite pattern and IMAC activities in there. Electric park flyer and 3D foamie are extremely popular, but quite few electric pattern.
There are many 2x2 size pattern ARF available, most of them were made in China, good price and fair quality. IMAC ARF also easy to get with much cheaper price than in US. Some made by local shops, quality is very good. Check with ZC Lin, he has more info.
Don't worry about the language, most flyers can speak English, some of them even got degree in US, so it is not an issue.

Taichung was too far from my place.But I will fly there sometimes
