Pattern Foamy (outdoor) suggestions...???

Gents, I'm looking into a foamy to fly at the local park... I've seen some of the indoor stuff but wanted to catch-up on what's available for outdoor flying...
Are there decent kits available or are you guys cutting your own?
Also, which motor/esc/battery combo is working for ya?
Thanks!

The only foamy I've found that approaches a pattern like feel is the Mobius from Airfoilz.....It flies very well ...for a foamy.

For other small electric pattern like ships, the Element 30 gets my vote over the more popular Vanquish.

The Black Magic foamy that Dean Funk is doing is a lot of fun. It is heavy enough for outdoors in light to resasonable winds. You can reach him at deanfunk.com

Arch, do you recall what esc/motor/battery was used in the Black Magic foamy you've flown?

rcpattern 11-04-2009 09:26 AM

RE: Pattern Foamy (outdoor) suggestions...???

I'll have to look. I was using the cheap turnigy stuff. Actually my entire setup was really cheap. Worked fine. I was flying 3S 1100mah packs and it would fly in whatever wind I felt like throwing it out in.

If you could check into the specific parts (esc (does it have a built in bec?), motor, rx) you used on your foamy and let me know, I'd appreciate it!

Any of you guys ever seen a Clik-X?:D

SPECS:

Clik-X (34")
AUW: 11oz.
MicroDan 2505-3D
Pheonix 10
Fusion-Pack 600mah 11.1v 25c battery
GWS 9 x 5 HD prop
Castle Creations 6v UBEC
3 x Futaba 3154 servos

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsQ5h...eature=related

Took me and my builder buddy many different prototype revisions to get it to where it is today. Its based off of the indoor clik from the Czech Republic and i have morphed its original design in many ways to make it into an outdoor version that i believe to be an amazing flying plane for both 3d and pattern. I give my builder buddy (Jason T.) all the credit in the world for the wicked construction and help with design changes that needed to be made in order to get its current amazing flight characteristics. I havent flown an outdoor foamy yet that compares. Check out the youtube link..

Woodie, I've got another question to ask Blake after he answers yours. Is the Clik X the same plane as the Clik that NSP
is selling? The NSP Clik appears to be smaller, as in 4-5 oz AUW! Blake's I believe has an AUW of 11 oz. Just thought I
would seek some clarification. I would also like to know who might be marketing the larger version.Regards___TNWalker

If you PM me, I'd be happy to share the drawings I've collected and a list of changes we've made. I tried to get David Kyjovsky to market and outdoor version but he's too busy with other projects to get his factory to get these on the market. I'm working on getting the (final-maybe not!) version on CAD and getting some kits for prototyping. You can make these any size you'd like. I've made anywhere from 27" to 52"(out of 1/2" blucor) and they all fly great! The 34" version seems to be one of the best overall sizes for backyard fun. It's just stiff enough out of 6mm depron when constructed properly to give you pattern and 3D all in the same flight without moving the pack. The 52" size is just way too much fun. They're like Lays potatoe chips-you can't just have one! LOL Here's the thread on RCGroups.com:

This is an outdoor version-heavier build(6mm) and different moments,SFGs, and fuse shape. Tried using the same basic planform as the indoor 3mm version and it flew well but needed some changes to make it right for outdoor flyng. I'm getting some CAD/CAM time this week for some production prototypes, so we'll see how things shape up for future kitting. Also working on a Micro version-lot harder than making the larger versions for sure. Probably going to rename this series. Vizion sounds like a good name.

Jason, I would bet there are many flyers out here that are interested in your foam plane if it is indeed a re-kit of the Clik
X series. Specifically the OUTDOOR version. I hope you are successful in your efforts and look forward to hearing about your progress. Please keep us informed via this thread. Also, at some point add your e mail address. Thanks___Everette

Blake ROCKS!!!!! All Hail the Master Hucker!! :)

I still like the [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iowKOXAvlck]Fliton Element F3A hucked over the lake![/link], but the music on the Clik video is perfect!

I wish Blake were interested in F3A FAI. I'd love to see him fly at the Nats :D

Maybe someday when I grow up I'll be able to fly like that . . . NOT . . . Thanks for sharing anyway.

Thanks TNWalker. We've had lots of fun with them for sure. Everyone who has built different sized versions has lots of love for them. Just met a customer at work(www.gravesrc.com) and he was telling me how much everyone in their club loved this cool foamie that one of their members had gotten from some guy on RCG. He said there's about 30 of them currently flying at the club. I put on a Clik-X vid and he said "Yeah, that's the plane. How did you get one?" hahahaha I'll e-mail you shortly. Hogging out a prototype Micro-Vision to lighten it up currently. Shooting for 1.5oz and 20" WS. Lots of milling and airbrakes should keep it relatively slow. Mmmm...living room pattern/F3P flyer LOL! :D

Yes, to me, Macrobat is like an indoor F3P that suits to fly outdoor. Hokusei also has many other products suitable for park flying: http://www.BestValueRC.com

Here's some pics of the first run test Vizion off the CNC machine. My buddy Bill is a hot rod/dragster builder and the paint scheme shows it! Nice work Bill. He's got some extra carbon bling on his model. Gotta love carbon! Bill flew his the other day powered by a MicroDan 2505-3D and he reports excellent flight characteristics. More later-working on one for Blake with Golden Knights scheme on it.

Thanks Feda,

I ordered my macrobat w/motor combo. I have always wanted to try one of the hokusei models. I was going to go by the HK location on my last trip and see if I could pick one up but I didn't have enough time. I am anxious to get one of these.

34" WS. Powered by MicroDan 2505-3D swinging a GWS 9 x 5HD. Futaba 3156 on ailerons and 2 x 3154's on elev/rudder. Pull/pull is necassary to keep weight forward and for more precise control than pushrods. Bill's weighed in around 12.5oz AUW and mine usually come in around 10.5-11oz without LG.
