Basic District Question
 

Do you have to fly in the district in which you live? I'd like to try sportsman for points and am in district 6 but would prefer to fly in district 7. Reason being that humidity and I don't get along.

You would be very welcome at any district contest, no restrictions at all.

There are no restrictions as to which District you can fly in. If it is an AMA sanctioned event, any AMA member can fly in the contest if they have an airplane that meets the requirements for that class.

'Districts' as far as pattern contests are concerned are usually referred to as the NSRCA (National Society of Radio Controlled Aerobatics) district where the contest is located. That may or may not be the same as the AMA district for that site. The NSRCA is the SIG (Special Interest Group) recognized by the AMA as the guiding organization for US Pattern.

Regardless, you are most welcome to fly at any AMA sanctioned pattern contest in any state whether you are a member of the NSRCA or not.

No problems flying in a different district. I live in D1 but fly D4 as I live about 5 miles from D4.

Does the little old lady still run the alien museum? She was very cool.

Thanks everyone! The museum is run by Walter Hauts daughter, he was officer that was told to inform the papers about the crashed disc in 1947.


By chance does anyone know of something like a Youtube video that shows sportsman or intermediate flown correctly?

Well its the off season, I could do a video of the sportsman sequence for you. It will give you somewhat of a Idea on how they are supposed to look like. Just to help ya out.

the problem with videos is the same problem with flight siimulators for me...If you can see the airplane, you lose the horizon and other reference points. Much of pattern is related to properly positioning maneuvers parallel to the runway, 150 meters out and within the box and those aspects are impossible to see on a video.

Your best bet is to read the jusdges manual carefully and practice as best you can, then go to a contest and try it out while learning from the other contestants there. Come on over to SE TX and SW LA and we'll show you what pattern is all about (we'll also show you about mosquitos, and humidity)

Hhhhhmmmmm.......mosquitos. I remember those from growing up in east Texas. Maybe its time for a trip.:)
