Airtronics Servos
What do you have, where do you use them, how do you like them?
I've got the 94772's in my ailerons. On the bench they're really smooth and quiet. In the air they feel pretty quick and precise, though my frame of reference is really small. I'm looking for servos for the tail. Probably a dual elevator setup with a pull-pull rudder. I was thinking 94761 in the elevators and not sure yet what to use for the rudder. |
RE: Airtronics Servos
Hi Joe,
I have been very happy with the 94761's in the stabs on my planes this season and have even used them on the ailerons of my E planes to shave some weight. Not sure if they are really enough torque for the higher level stuff and in the future would like to have more power in the wings. I have a pair of the 94758's that I may try next year. These work great but I think they are being fazed out. The 94773 has 156 oz/in @ 4.8v of torque and has served well on the rudder. Some have been using the 94780 361 oz/in @ 4.8v monster for rudder. A bunch of new ones are on the horizon so this could all change. |
RE: Airtronics Servos
In my E pattern plane I run the 758 on Rudder, the 761's on ele's, and I did run them on ailerons for the last few years, but now on ailerons I run the 746's.

RE: Airtronics Servos
Do JR horns fit Airtronics servos?? It's hard to find servo horns specifically for Atx servos.
|
RE: Airtronics Servos
I don't know about the JR horns. I have used the extra strength dubro horns....I think that trax makes a wheel and some aluminum arms that use inserts...they have airtronics inserts listed.

RE: Airtronics Servos
No, they don't fit. Sorry.
They are hard to find, go to hobbypeople.net and search Airtronics servo arm and they will come up. Perhaps I will mention that to Mike Greenshields. Thanks! Chris |
RE: Airtronics Servos
These Dubro arms arelisted on the Hobbypeople.net site. Says they fit both JR and Atx servos.

I figure even if it's just slightly different it's no good, so I just took that at face value. Some things seem to say JR/Air, others don't say anything about Airtronics. I also know that Atx is coming out with new stuff and changed their servo plugs - I don't know enough about them to know if they have one type of servo spline, or many, etc. |
RE: Airtronics Servos
I rebuilt a plane for a guy with jr arms( I think coulda been Hitec or Futaba now that I think about it), and they didn't fit the atx servo's that I used in it. Possibly one or the other changed, but I don't think atx has. Don't get me wrong, it fit, it just didn't fit right. Are you looking for a certain size. Perhaps I can help you find something.
BTW, standard atx size servo's that I've used all use the same spline setup. |
RE: Airtronics Servos
Thanks. Trying to find the right servo arm for my rudder servo. The Dubro ones mentioned above will work, just wondering if anything else is available (pulley maybe?). The stock rudder horn is 55mm at the holes.
The release of the new radios seems to have a lot of people talking about Airtronics. Hopefully we'll see more supporting products coming out in the near future... |
RE: Airtronics Servos
Sigh
Go to Tower Hobbies try LXHWP7, LXEKC1 and LKEKC2 there are others, but I have used these and they are built for Airtronics splines or have inserts available for Aritronics splines. Frankly this spline stuff is for the birds. Why so many flavors? Yeah, I know. |
RE: Airtronics Servos
I have used JR arms on all my new airtronics servos with no problem... but
if you go to http://www.hobbypeople.net/guru/HPS_962533129.asp did a search for aluminium servo arm. Chuck Team Airtronics |

Joe, here's another source for the pulleys and arms that I've used in the past. They work just as well as the H9 stuff, it's just easier for me to get H9's equipment. I thought maybe they had Airtronics specific arms and such, but it appears as though they combine them with JR. I don't know if JR and Airtronics are close on their gear pattern, but I know JR arms are always very tight (to the point of needing to heat them up sometimes to get them off) on JR servos. |
RE: Airtronics Servos
Some more food for thought, I've never been crazy about generic servo arms that have inserts to fit different servos. I feel like they are succeptible to wearing sooner since you have two places where the arm is fitting on something. Remember the simile for opinions, and remember how much this one cost you.

I don't know if JR and Airtronics are close on their gear pattern, but I know JR arms are always very tight (to the point of needing to heat them up sometimes to get them off) on JR servos. It's a good point about the JR stuff being tight - the Airtronics horns are really snug on the airtronics servos, but the JR horns slip right on the Airtronics servos. So, I just tried an Airtronics horn on a JR servo and it wouldn't go - seems to me that they may have the same spline pattern, but JR has a slightly larger diameter (gear?) than Airtronics. That should be enough for me to not use JR stuff on Airtronics... |
