Valiant By Bryan Hebert (First Flight)

Here are a few pictures of my new Valiant's first flight.
This plane was designed, built and test flown by Bryan Hebert.
10lbs 6oz
This plane flew perfect on the first flight!!! No trimming of any kind was needed.
If I had not seen it with my own two eyes I would not have believed it.
No mixing was used. That's right, I said no mixing.
If I can't take home a trophy this year it's not because of the plane:D

Good pics guys. I liked the plane from watching it in Jacksonville this year. The dorsal fin should add a bit of yaw stability. Can someone speak to the "cap" piece added to it? plane looks good.
Thanks,
Jim

The "strake" as Bryan calls it was designed by Bryan to increase rudder authority. I was there when he was testing this along with a canalizer. After he flew with the canalizer, he landed and said, "Well, it didn't hurt." After he flew with the strake he was thoroughly impressed with the improvements. I believe he was working with the manufacturer to see if it could be made part of the kit. Perhaps he'll chime in here and let us know if there was any development there. I'm sure he'd also be willing to provide dimensions to those who wanted to add it to an airframe they had already purchased.

RE: Valiant By Bryan Hebert (First Flight)

Wish I could help you with that, Highfly. I did video the first few flights of the first Valiant, but I don't know what Hebert did with them. They were kept under wraps until the plane went public, but I bet Bryan could be persuaded to put some footage on his website. Next time I see him I'll see if it's possible. We actually had some sweet stills from the first flights as well, those leaked a while back on RCU and the page was promptly taken down. Bryan didn't own those photos though, they were taken by the graphics guy who did the logo and graphics designs for the Valiant.

Can anyone update the progress on the Valiant as far as the test flying and the "Strake" issue? Is the "strake" now part of the finished now shipping product from CARF? Can anyone else flying this aircraft post their comments on this thread? I am intereated in possibly buying a Valiant and powering it with a YS170 CDI

Thanks

Hi Dick, long time no see !

The Strake, is offered as an option for the Valiant, you can purchase one from CARF
or fly it without it. it does not come with the kit.
I like the way it works on the Valiant and I would suggest to use it.
it improves all aspects of the flying.

Mark Hunt just put it on a cad. file for CARF , and if you have a Valiant you can now get them .But I have made 3 or 4 for guys around here of laminated 1/16 balsa and carbon cloth ,once they put them on, they don`t remove um! it makes that much difference ,,it will improve any model, if they are properly trimmed before hand.

If you want a "Current" model with no mix at 10.5 pounds glow I think you will love the Valiant!

Strange..

The dorsal addition would reduce rudder authority, as it would increase yaw stability. The flow fence is probably the reason for the increased rudder authority as it stops the spanwise flow along the sweep of the vertical fin.
