Header & Pipe/Muffler vs. Stock exhaust on a 4 stroke??

Header & Pipe/Muffler vs. Stock exhaust on a 4 stroke??
What is the advantage of a Header & Pipe/Muffler over a stock exhaust?? I know the 2 cycles benefit with more power and less noise, but do you really gain anything (perfmorance wise) using theses on a 4 cycle. I see the pattern guys using them, and assume it is probably more for the noise factor. Does anyone have any input or hard facts on this?? Just trying to justify the extra cost of the setup. Please let me know.

The biggest advantage is noise. The header and pipe setups are MUCH quieter than the stock exhaust.

That is what I thought, just planning a pattern ship project. Not planning on competing at this point, just love the way they fly. Any other subjections or comments are welcome.

It also makes for a little cleaner install without the muffler hanging out the side. I think it also takes a lot stress of the head since the pipe is mounted and most 4-stroke mufflers just hang there. Even if you decide to go with just a muffler, I would seriously considering using header and more of a Pitts Style muffler you can get from Central just to clean up the install.

No matter what choice you decide though, I would definitely recommend soft mounting the engine just to take stress off the airframe.

Thanks Arch
I will take your advice and go with a header it will be a cleaner install. I will be using a Hyde mount and nose ring.
