D1 vs D2 Challenge
LET THE SMACK TALK BEGIN!!
After talking with Ed Alt (D1) and Larry Kauffman (D2), this contest is on. I have been fortunate to be part of several of the D4-D5 shootouts in the past and I can say they are always some of the most fun contests as it becomes a "team" sport for a weekend. When I moved here to Maryland this fall, several of the club members mentioned they would like to have a pattern contest and due to our location it will be perfect for this contest. Most of the pilots in D1 and D2 should be within a 6 hour drive. A few will be more, but most should fall in that area. Myrtle Beach is a little over 6 hours, and NYC is about 4 1/2. Below are some details. The paperwork is on its way in as we speak. The club is about 45 miles south of DC and just north of Lexington Park, MD, home of Pax River NAS. There are MANY hotels and restaurants within 10 miles of the field. Field is well cut grass in a state park and will be open all day Friday, June 18, for practice. More details will follow. Date: June 19-20, 2010 Location: Hollywood, MD Club Info: www.paxaero.com Arch |
RE: D1 vs D2 Challenge
Fathers Day weekend Arch. That is why I moved my contest to the following weekend this year.

RE: D1 vs D2 Challenge
Joe,
I realize that. Unfortunately the goal was a June-ish contest that worked for both districts and those were the dates we came up with. The weekend before there is a conflict with the club. I've flown at a lot of contests father's day weekend and usually it doesn't have a great deal of bearing on the turn out. I guess we'll see, Arch |
RE: D1 vs D2 Challenge
Let's make sure this makes it to the NSRCA calendar page - I'll probably forget about it between now and then.
If I am still on the East coast I will be there to see D2 bow down[>:]:D |
RE: D1 vs D2 Challenge
It will be on the calendar soon. I'm sure it will keep being brought up as well.

RE: D1 vs D2 Challenge
I know we all have family thing's to do. But It 's Father Day , for some of us Our day. Let's ask our dad's to join us at the field. This could be fun thing to do together.

JR will be out for the gold with his secret new weapon...... :)

RE: D1 vs D2 Challenge
This will probably work out nicely for me at least, since I can swing by and pick up my Dad in Delaware on the way to the contest. It's been a while since he's attended one.

RE: D1 vs D2 Challenge
Great idea guys. Maybe we can do something special at dinner that night for the dad's.

RE: D1 vs D2 Challenge
Dinner with them sounds like a nice idea. Let's work on that.

I'm only coming if all the D2 Intermediate pilots move up to Advanced :)
Just kidding! Count me in! Now I gotta figure out which kind of beer the D2 judges prefer :D JP |

Joe,
You might do better to find out Friday night what kind of beer your competition prefers! RE: D1 vs D2 Challenge
Sounds like fun. Depending on how the IMAC schedule shakes out that weekend, I may blow the dust off my pattern plane and join you guys- this is only about an 1.5 hours from me.
Ryan- you think you may come up? |
RE: D1 vs D2 Challenge
It's a good possibility Dave.

RE: D1 vs D2 Challenge
If you can make it....I will bring Schneider Weisse....an excellent choice!

Should have the sanction paperwork back this week and I'm going to start working on good deals for hotels. As the date gets closer we'll start looking at ideas for dinner on Saturday night.
Two deviations from normal are, any AMA legal plane in Sportsman, and FAI will fly F-11 on Sunday. Should be a great contest. Arch |
RE: D1 vs D2 Challenge
Arch,
1 question - For FAI Sunday....if an FAI pilot is not comfortably flying F11, can they still fly P11? This is what we have been doing in D1 to keep from chasing pilots out of FAI who do not want to fly the F11. To keep things logistically simple, we use the same scoresheets (and don't worry about K discrepancies) regardless of which pattern is flown. RE: D1 vs D2 Challenge
Dave,
Yea, we can work with that. That shouldn't be an issue, Arch |
RE: D1 vs D2 Challenge
Is there camping on site (or nearby) so I can bring my motorhome?
|
RE: D1 vs D2 Challenge
On site, no, but the field is in Greenwell State Park and there are camping sites there which are very close.
Unfortunately the field is closed at dark, Arch |
