FUTABA BRUSHLESS SERVOS
Hi everyone
Just wondering if any of you have tried the FUTABA brushless servos for F3A. Which ones would you recommend for each flying control surface ? Thank you in advance MAVROS :D |
RE: FUTABA BRUSHLESS SERVOS
I've been using BLS-153 on dual elevator application & throttle with good results. For rudder, I've always used S9156/ S9157, but will try the BLS-151 on my next plane.
As for ailerons, I have had some issues with the first generation BLS-154, but will try again with the newer version soon. I'm also using six BLS-651 on my Fliton Element 170 bipe, so far so good. Adrian |
RE: FUTABA BRUSHLESS SERVOS
Adrian how do the BLS153 compare to the older brushed 9650? I never like the sloppy gear train of 9650. Has this been improved?
Have you found any difference between BLS153 and BLS651 besides the casing? In the specs they appear to be the same, but I know that car servos sometimes are shipped with tighter deadband. |
RE: FUTABA BRUSHLESS SERVOS
I ran the BLS254 on a single DEPS elevator system, the BLS352 on the rudder, and BLS154's on the ailerons this year with no issues. I really liked the servos and will continue to use the brushless servos from here on out.

RE: FUTABA BRUSHLESS SERVOS
I am running the BLS-153s on dual elevators, replacing 9650s on my e-Integral. There is little if any slop in the gear train of the BLS-153s. Much tighter feel to the elevators now tho I really didn't have any issues with the 9650s. I am also using BLS-451s on ailerons. I know there are other servos people are using for ailerons, but I have a tendency to stay with a solution that works and I have been using the 451s since they first came out. My original set of 451s have over 400 flights on them with no sign of significant gear train wear or pot wear. I am sure there is some wear there, but I didn't notice much change when I replaced the original set with new 451s.

RE: FUTABA BRUSHLESS SERVOS
I'm using the BLS651's - no different to the 153's except the case. I'm also using the BLS551 on aileron and the BLS155 on rudder.

RE: FUTABA BRUSHLESS SERVOS
If you are looking for a servo, with almost no slop. go with the JR 3421 SA, after 10 flight on my e-pattern pentathol using bls 153, there were very sloppy, what
a waste of money, Never again. All my servo's are JR |

All my servo's are JR Are you using the 153 on the ail or the ele? If it develops slop for just after 10 flights, either it's something wrong with the servos, or, may be the linkage. Mine has over 200 flights on the tail with no problem. Adrian |
RE: FUTABA BRUSHLESS SERVOS
Jarvis,
10 flights? If there is slop in an e-plane after 10 flights, something else is going on. Well over a 100 on my 153s right now and they are still very tight. Is this the Pentathalon we flew in Fresno? Woodie Team Acme LG |
RE: FUTABA BRUSHLESS SERVOS
My BLS setup is as follows
Ailerons BLS551's Elevator BLS651's Rudder BLS 352 On this setup I put 300+ flights prior to the nationals and didnt have to touch anything. These servos have the same tight gear train even after all of those flights. Andrew |
RE: FUTABA BRUSHLESS SERVOS
Thanks for the advice everyone.
Jarvis .....I dont think you can have a servo with no slop... regards MAVROS :D |
RE: FUTABA BRUSHLESS SERVOS
Yes Woodie, the Pentathlon that I used at the Frenso contest, Bill Sheets had the the same problem on his Valiant.
An the linkage is MK BB, Granted that Bill flys every weekend, and the first flight was at the end of May, on his E- powered Valiant. |
RE: FUTABA BRUSHLESS SERVOS
Jarvis,
what servo arms are you using on these servos? I know that if I use the dubro HD arms they have quite a bit of slop in those. Andrew |
RE: FUTABA BRUSHLESS SERVOS
I have used 451's on ailerons for a couple years, they were great, now I have 551's as they are about 20g lighter, and they are great as well.
352 on the rudder like Andrew, I just changed from a 9156 to the 352 and even with the lower torque rating it "feels" stronger than the 56. I am still using 9650's on the elevators, but plan to try out some of the BLS equivalents one day. |

I think your slop is induced by the quarters you tape to the wings... :D |
RE: FUTABA BRUSHLESS SERVOS
When are those s.bus servos going to be available? They might be the way to go?

RE: FUTABA BRUSHLESS SERVOS
Yes, Andrew those are what I was using. The HD Du-Bro servos arm, an that may have been the problem.
An the reason that I went with those, because I bought a Integral from Jason, a few years age an that what he was using. |
RE: FUTABA BRUSHLESS SERVOS
I use the HD Dubro arms. I had a ton of slop in a new set of elevator servos (Airtronics), but the problem was the servo. Got them replaced and now it's all tight.
Just wanted to point out that sometimes things just done come out right from the factory; nothing is perfect. |

RE: FUTABA BRUSHLESS SERVOS
Jarvis,
I'd be willing to bet that it's the arms, the reason I say that is I was hvubg problems with my spark last year and kept swapping out servos in the tail and never got it figured out until this spring when I went back to a futaba horn which made things much tighter. With that said it also could have been a bad set of servos as this could happen, hopefully not but very possible. Andrew |
RE: FUTABA BRUSHLESS SERVOS
Hi Andrew
What where the arms doing? Were they able to rotate on the gear when you twist them? |
RE: FUTABA BRUSHLESS SERVOS
Yea they were just not tight on th spline at all. Usually you have to push the arm on the servo, these basically just fell on. Which ones even tightened down allowed the servo arm to rotate on the spline.
Andrew |
RE: FUTABA BRUSHLESS SERVOS
The loose Dubro arms can be tightened up by putting some stretchy plastic over the spline and squeeze the arm over. Works in a pinch anyway.
