YS Case Bronzing
1 Attachment(s)
I am ready to purchase another YS110. Need any advice on the case bronzing. It is NIB, any advice appreciated. Never mounted, no fuel thru it. There may be more bronzing then what is in picture here. Vince |
RE: YS Case Bronzing
Looks to me like packing oil that has a little age and oxidation.
Probably zero effect on performance. |
RE: YS Case Bronzing
That is what I was thinking. It is from the packaging oil.

Realizing this is NOS, (new old stock), this can happen. I just got anxious waiting on the new 115, which is on BO with Central. If I was an experienced YS guy, it would probably not bother me at all. It is just on the top half. Thanks for the info. Another picture.

RE: YS Case Bronzing
Hiya Vince..
I would tend to agree with the others in that it's probably the packaging oil and should have no effect on performance. I have bought...well...more than one new YS engine over the years and left them to "mature" on my shelves. When they are new they are actually sorta sloppy with packaging oil, so much that the bag will even be saturated with oil, it's sorta thick and sticky stuff. I have noticed that what ever type of oil it is will evaporate (?) or basically go away after sitting for some time. I suppose they expect you to use the engine just because you buy it??? Well I like to plan ahead (apparently 20 years ahead).... :D I'd venture to say the reason you see the staining on the upper surface and not the underside will be because the fluid puddled and remained thicker on the top and evaporated (?) quicker on the bottom. Just a guess... ;) I would not let the staining bother me in the least. It may even clean off with a little elbow grease... ;) Good Luck and Have Fun... Chuck |
RE: YS Case Bronzing
Vince,
The stain is the result of oil oxidation over time and does not represents a problem, it's purely cosmetic. It happens on the cylinder as has a different manufacturing process and its a little bit more porous than the rest of the engine. You can try to clean it (I would) but probable that golden appearance will not go out, I think it actually looks cool. Regards |
