Hangar 9 Funtana 125 Tail Servos
Hi all!
I need some advice on servos. I am trying to figure out what the best servos for the elevator are weight/torque wise. I will be using a DS821 servo on the Rudder as a standard size servo is unavoidable for that. But the elevator servos are freaking me out man!
Also, are there any adverse effects to mixing digitals and analogs? Let me know!
Here is what I am currently considering-
http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...dProduct=11627
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXN664&P=ML for low cost
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...5245&search=Go expensive though-YIKES!!!
Let me know what you guys think.
P.S. if you have servos applicable and would like to trade for a Parkzone HABU airframe unpainted airframe with HS-65HB's and HS-85HB's let me know
I always appreciate everyone's help. I can get through power systems VERY well, but when it comes to servos my experience is buy 'em, install 'em and fly 'em!
Best,
Chris

I use a DX-7 and will be using most likely either an AR6200 or AR7000, which is something I also need to get my hands on. Please remember that I am trying to keep the weight down. OWWW My wife is whipping me with a hangar as I type this!!!! LOL

Thanks!
Do you also think that I would be OK using just the supplied BEC with the Castle Ice 100 ESC? I also have a Castle 10 Amp BEC if I need to use it. Thanks again!
The Funtana 125 uses 5 servos, 2 elevator, 2 aileron and 1 rudder FYI.

I was faced with the same dilema, this year. I have an Aeroworks 29% Katana running a CC HV85 on 10S 5000mah 40C Turnigy batteries. I was advised to use a CC BEC Pro set to 6v. They felt that a 5a BEC was not adequate. I also use a 2200mah 3cell Lipo as my Rx battery.
If you have a Wattmeter or an H9 Current Meter, you can measure the Current Draw of each individual servo or of the entire system and take it from there.

RE: Hangar 9 Funtana 125 Tail Servos
Thank you so much!
Now I am face with a dilemma...
If I install a pull-pull rudder, will my tail end up too light with mini servos on the elevator? It is quite a predicament. I plan on running 6s lipo and a turnigy 5065 sk 380 kv motor. I hear that is the way to go for a lighter airframe- I'd like to be square at 8 pounds, and I think I'll come close that way!
That being said, what are the advantages of a pull-pull rudder and should I select a different servo for pull-pull as a pose to direct linkage? Thanks again!
Best,
Chris

Usually, Pull Pull is a means to lighten the tail or to get around obstacles that make it difficult to use a straight pushrod. It is a bit more complex than having a servo in the tail and requires a bit more maintenance.

Sweet!
So do you think I should do it for the first time with this aircraft? I have never done it before - I also have no idea about the maintenance required and would consider this a learning experience. What do you think?
I always appreciate your help!
Thanks!
Chris
Also, what servo should I use for the rudder? Let me know what you think!

RE: Hangar 9 Funtana 125 Tail Servos
When you set up a Pull-Pull system, you can use Kevlar thread or metal wires. I like to use the wires since the thread sometimes stretches and requires retightening. If you connect the Pull-Pull directly to the Rudder servo arm, it tends to put pressure on the Output Gear shaft of the servo. With Nylon gears, the shaft can bend slightly over time. I like to use a BellCrank. The Pull-Pull lines are connected to the BellCrank and it takes all the load. You run a pushrod from the Servo Arm to the BellCrank. Use a BellCrank that has a Brass Bushing rather than a Bolt and some washers.
Sullivan and DuBro sell Pull-Pull wire sets with Turnbuckles on the ends. It is a threaded rod with a hole in one end. Slip the wire through a short brass tube, through the hole in the Turnbuckle, back through the tube, loop around and back through the tube, then Crimp the tube. The Clevises you use should have enough threads so you can loosen or tighten the wire to avoid slop in the linkage. Some people only use a Turnbuckle on the Rudder Horn so that is the only point of adjustment.
The Rudder Horns I like to use are a threaded rod with conical nuts on either side of the Rudder. You connect the Clevis to a plastic connector screwed on to the end of the threaded rod coming out either side of the Rudder. These all come with the Sullivan or DuBro Pull-Pull kits. You only need a small slit on either side of the fuselage so the Pull-Pull wire can exit.
If you are doing 3D, you need a servo with more torque than the other control surfaces. I also prefer Metal Gear (MG).

Thanks!
Where can I also find the Futaba compatible 4 inch pull-pull arm from? I have looked all over and cannot find an appropriate arm. Thanks!
Also, will I have issues if I use the HS-5245MG servos? are they too small? I have heard nothing but success with these but I am always listening to others when it comes to getting servos! would those servos be the best of what I posted initially? let me know.
Best,
Chris
