Default Does rain disturb radio signals?

Today I went flying and it was raining a bit. The servo's where shaking (disturbed) when the airplane was about 30 meters away. Is this normal?

it should not disturb the signal. i have been flying in really strong rain, snow and fog and never had problems. of course all the equipment should be properly protected from moisture.

My guess is that it's not the rain but humidity in the air or moisture on the ground that affects the signal. I've noticed that there seems to be a difference when flying over dry ground, wet ground and snow. I thought it was just me at first but others have noticed the same thing.

Default Rain

Were you doing a range check when this happened?

Wet soil is a better conductor than dry soil. When doing a range check the receiver antenna is close to the ground. Radio signals die off near a good conductor. The better the conductor the more they are attenuated.

Just one theory.

Dutch flowers.....ah yes.....the kuckenhoff (sp..its been 40 years!) gardens in the spring! Absolutly beautiful!!

I noticed the difference while flying. Once I range check a plane..that's it.

If the base of your transmitter antenna get wet, it can short out the antenna to ground which will severly limit your range. this has happened to me; but, if you keep the antenna junction dry, you should see little effect.

It sure does, unless the massive radio hit I took a few weeks ago just happend to coincide with the instant it started to rain. However it calmed down immediately after that so it's possible that rain itself doesn't cause interfearence, but the change in the atmosphere when it just begins to rain.
