Default Spektrum receivers

I have a Spektrum DX6i transmitter. Do I have to use a spektrum receiver? I am starting to fly planes that only need 3 channels and am looking for an inexpensive receiver.
Thanks Tom

2.4Ghz radios are proprietary, and require that the receiver and transmitter are from the same manufacturer. JR and Spektrum are using the same technology, so they are compatible with one another.

Hobby King does offer a line of Orange 2.4 receivers that are JR/Spektrum compatible, and very inexpensive.
