Default World first?...Possibly

A model aircraft club in Victoria Australia have ban the use of no name brand copy receivers at their club. This basically means Hobby King copies for both Spektrum and FASST, and any other no name cheap copy. The reason been that they are not on the list of manufactures technology approved by the governing body MAAA. Use of these receivers will possibly jeopardise any insurance claim, and possibly you will have the insurance company chasing you to settle the claim for non conformity of rules as laid down by the governing body MAAA.

All Australian members on these forums please check MAAA MOP058 for clarification and especially view Appendix A (Current Accepted Systems) "Only genuine products from those manufacturers are covered by this list of cuurently accepted systems".

So they just need to put the others on the approved list. Silly to ban something that has been working just fine for tens of thousands of modelers worldwide, eh?

It will be interesting to see what they do with the Koko and other counterfeit products.

It's about time this issue got taken up by one of the "authorities". Now if only they would also do it with some of the other cruddy stuff that keeps coming from such places the whole RC Experience would more likely be an enjoyable venture for the less experienced that continually get caught out in the quest to save a couple of dollars at first.

It is actually very easy to get a product included on the list of acceptable items. All that is needed is for proof that the product complies with the Governmental requirements of the technology then some form of proof that the product is manufactured in such a way that it will continue to comply.

What I see as a grey area in some cases or missing altogether in other cases is most of the radios incuded with the numerous "RTF" products. Yet the MAAA has recently agreed to have a "Park flyer" membership level that is generally aimed at people who don't attend the official fields and often fly in public open spaces.

The information is presented as a spreadhseet in the MOP. Theh "None but see Guidance" is from the limitations column.

We have many MOP's here, most would seem to be designed to stop us having fun but they work reasonably well overall.

Herbs, the Hobby King Orange Fasst receivers are made by Frsky. The only difference is the case. I don't see where this regulation will stop the use of the Orange RX's. The linked document though was very interesting reading.
