FrSky DHT Module on Futaba 7CAP
Hi,
Yesterday I installed a FrSky DHT Module on my old Futaba 7CAP.
I decided to do this to take advantage of the 2.4GHz technology, and because my radio was barely used.
I decided to convert to 2.4 GHz for good, I did not want to have 2 antennas nor extra switches that could cause problems...
Here are some photos, any comments are welcome!
Last look at the original looks:
Lets take it apart, start by the antenna:
Battery off:
Frequency crystal off:
And here you go, the insides of the 7CAP, in the center you have the transmitter module.
I'm going to cut the connections to the old transmitter module and connect it to the FrSky module:
Here you have the 3 wires you need to cut.
The Red on the Futaba goes to the Black on the FrSky, the Brown to Red and the Black to the Yellow.
On the FrSky the Red is V+; Black is GND and the Yellow is PPM:
You have plenty of space underneath the old board:
I used some doble sided mounting tape to help holding the FrSky in place:
I decided to use the crystal opening on the case to give access to the LED and binding switch, again I used the same tape:
Cut the wires and solder them together as described, use Heat shrinking tubing to insulate:
The antenna connector isn't long enough so I used some hot glue to hold the connector in place:
And here is the final result:

An excellent post, pity you never added a narrative to go with the pictures. About a year ago I converted my 8UAF from 72 to 2.4 by using a FrSky 2.4 moudle and it's been rock solid in it's performance.

I used 3M Mounting Tape, double-coated, to help holding the TX module and the button/led board in place:
I decided not to install the 3 way toggle switch for selecting between 1Way Communications, 2Way Communications or Firmware Upgrade Mode.
If you disconnect the switch, the default 2Way is selected. I don't use non-telemetry receivers so if/when I need to do a Firmware Upgrade I just open the the transmitter and connect the switch.
This way I didn't do any changes to the transmitter case.

By the way, everything is working fine, but I still have to do a range check.
Battery seams to last longer [8D]
One question for the FrSky DHT users, is it normal for the Red LED to flicker instead of staying solid? The led is not blinking on and off, its as if it was blinking realy fast

Today I did some more testing using a D6FR receiver.
At first there was some jittering on my digital servos, so I changed the receiver to HS mode and all is OK now.

Hi!
Tested it today and it is just perfect!
Range check in range check mode was 100 big steps, something like 80 meters, meaning it would give 30x80m=2400 meters.
I did a range check using full power and went to the end of the airfield and all was good!

2K... I'll stick to the reduce power range checks
I'm just going to add one more thing, a cover for the Led and binding switch, from the real 7C 2.4.
I hope I can find one
