Default "Best Way" to set up servo throws

Hi All!

I am setting up my 9C for my new Extra. In order to get the maximum control resolution, I was thinking I should set end-points on the radio to the absolute maximum (+/- 140%) then adjust the linkages to get the correct maximum throws. Is this the correct procedure?

I don't really understand why Futaba would set up the TX so that an indicated 100% travel on the radio is less than 100% of the servos travel. Can anyone enlighten me?

I am no expert on this but let me quote from p.58 of the October 2003 issue of Flying Models magazine:

"Just because your new fancy transmitter lets you dial in 120% throws, do not assume that your servos will comply. Digital ones may die."

Normal servo travel is much less than the angle you can rotate the servo when not powered. The fancier transmitters can drive servos beyond this but the further you go, the greater chance you take. I would set maximum surface throw to occur with normal 100% servo travel by adjusting linkages. You can adjust slightly above or below this with safety. Below 100% you lose resolution because the servo is not traveling all the way, above this you take chances. I personally wouldn't go beyond 110%.

David, If your radio's end point was maximum travel of the servo, you would have no trim adjustment. The 100% is the same as what a non-computerized/non-adjustable radio gives you. Deisgned to match the normal setup from one model to another.

The US 9C manual talks about adjusting linkage or end point on page 32. this info might be helpful...

Okey dokey! I've got some re-working of my radio to do!

Hi Anne-Marie, nice to see you are peeking in from time to time! How's the horse thing going? I used to spend lots of time in the saddle...did a 150 mile cattle drive once.
