Default Looking to get back in to hobby? FrSky Taranis Plus X9D?

Is the FrSky Taranis Plus X9D a good option? It looks like its available at AH for $220 with a case..... I would be using it for simple sport flying to regain my flying skills... Which receivers and servos would I use?
Thanks for any help...

Taranis is a great radio. I have two. It will take you a bit of work to learn its programming.
The x series receivers will give you telemetry and provide the extra capability you might want later.
The best cheap servos i have found are solar servos sold by Hobby Express.
You might want to check and see if you can find someone locally to help with programming that Taranis.
Have you considered a simulator? If you do a google you can find a lot of them. They can save you a lot of money

I can not comment on the Taranis, other than I may be getting it as my next radio. I have a 9x right now with the open source firmware, so I guess it is the er9x now. I have had it for 3 years or so and it has been bullet proof, no brown outs, glitches or other forms of signal loss. You can get it from Hobby Partz. If you like tinkering, it is a good radio to customize.

I have a bunch of Solar servos. I have them in mirco, up to my 60 sized glider tug and my Blade 550x helicopter. They go in and out of stock pretty quick. They work with a 4 cell nimh pack all the way up to a 2s lipo for the standard size.

Of the (4) Airtronics radios, (2) RD6000, (2) RDS8000's, I use the 9x more than the rest combined. With the Rx's being $12.00 compared to in the $50.00 plus for the rest.

I am sure you will get information over load on a new Tx. It is the Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Nissan debate. Every one has their favorites and good reasons for them. I was laughed at when I brought a black plastic Tx to the field for the first time. Every one said it was cheap junk. Now look at Futaba. I was laughed at again when I brought this new cheap radio to the field. Now look at Hitec.

There are a lot of radios out there with tons of features. So many toys to look at now.

Buzz.

Its cheap. Its not junk.
Items made in china are cheaper because labor is cheaper.
I remember when Futaba was called junk because it was cheaper. And it was junk until they copied american equipment.
Now Futaba has their equipment made in China and takes a big profit because people think it must be better because it costs more.

Foxbat,
I have been using the Taranis for nealy a year and no malfunction of the RF link. I wasn't satisfied with the feel of the sticks around center so I made metal centering arms. Aloft Hobbies is a good source for the Taranis and they now offer the metal centering arms. I don't recommend that anyone buy the Taranis until they have looked at the programing. It is very versatile but can be intimidating to some users. Check out all the user groups on line. The only defect I have found was the program buttons coming loose inside the Tx.

I think the Taranis is the best buy available if you can handle the programing. I also own a Futaba 9C, Futaba 12FG, and Weatronic RF module with Micro receivers so I can make a good comparison.
