If you are going to get the PNP, Plug N Play, planes you have to get Spectrum. If not you can choose many brands. It depends on what you want to spend. I prefer Futaba FASST. I also still fly 72 mhz.

Another excellent choice (by far the best buy) is the Tactic TX850. High quality, low price, 30 model memory, lots of bells and whistles, easy to program and inexpensive receivers. You will be doing yourself a favor by at least checking one out. There are also plug and play planes available for the SLT (secure link technology) class of planes. Tower Hobbies often has some really great deals on the Tactic along with discount coupons.

All depends on what you are going to fly. If you are going to fly park fliers and traditional 4 channel airplanes, its a good radio. I would look at 8 channel radios for down the road. Missing the modern ability to run multiple servos on one channel through the TX is limiting with todays planes.
