Default Old guy, new tricks? Are there

I'm a new old guy here looking to get back into R/C planes after messing around with quads for the last year. I took out my fa50 powered Sweet & Low Stik (after cleaning a ton of dust off it) with my old 72mhz Futaba the other day and had a blast with it! All the learned reflexes were mostly all there but my friends said it looked like I had a tiger by the tail! Anyhow, I recently bought a Habu 32 EDF fully set up with a 9ch JR 921 DSM Spektrum RX. I'm looking at the Spektrum DX9 transmitter to fly this bird and any others that I plan to get. ( I plan on getting plenty of stick time before attempting the Jet) Will the DX9 transmitter work with this Rx? Do I need a binding plug to do this? Am I intimidated by this new technology? YES! Kindly advise and please be kind...

Yes, a DX9 will work with a JR 921. You need a bind plug, but it's just a loop that ties the two outermost pins together.

If you need one, there's probably somebody at your club who has a few spares for you. Or PM me your address and I'll mail you some.

Thanks Andy, you seem to be the go to guy here. I haven't been a member of my old club ( Indian River Kontrol Society) for over twenty years but will attend thier next meeting with a lot of questions. I was curious to see if the hobby had attracted any younger members as I am pushing 64 years and was a youngster when I joinded them.

Andy, upon checking the DX9 Q@A section of Horizon Hobbies website I read that a DSM receiver is not compatible with this transmitter? I would really like to use the rx thats already in my plane (JR R921 DSM)

JR DSM is the same as Spektrum DSM2 and DSMX. JR left the 2 and X off.

Your JR 921 is compatible.

There were only 2 air DSM receivers, both Spektrum: AR6000 and BR6000.
