Default Micro recievers, servos & esc's

Hi guys, I recently bought an EAZYRC patriot 1/18 crawler with just the standard rx/esc combo... Now i have an old brushless outrunner with esc that i would like to put in it but there is a problem: the esc has one of those micro 3 pin connectors. I cant find many recievers that don't have an esc with those plugs. Im wondering if i could use a normal reciever and use an adapter to go from the big plug to micro... Would this work? Or will there be too much power going to that little esc? Also the servo also uses a micro plug and im worrying about that also being overvolted using a normal reciever?
Anybody tried this or knows about it?
I would really appreciate you guy's help...
